Home Depot Lopper Shears Recall Reannounced After Additional Reports of Injury, Lacerations

A recall impacting more than 275,000 Fiskars Bypass Lopper Shears sold exclusively at Home Depot has been reannounced by federal safety officials, after reports of injuries and lacerations continue to be received from consumers.

The Home Depot Lopper Shears recall was re-issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on March 28, indicating that at least 33 reports of problems have been received, including at least 10 since the initial recall was announced in October 2014.

The handle of the Fiskars Titanium Bypass Lopper shears may break while consumers are attempting to cut branches, causing pinched fingers, bruising and laceration injuries to the head or face.

An estimated 288,000 Lopper shears sold at Home Depot stores nationwide are included in the recall. The 32 inch shears contain the model number 6954, with a long dark orange steel handles and black rubber grips with a gray strip.

The shears are equipped with two very sharp pruning blades designed to cut through branches, bushes, and various other lawn and garden shrubbery. The brand name “FISKARS” is printed on one handle and the product information is printed on a label on the opposite handle.

The recall shears were manufactured in China under Fiskars Brands Inc. of Madison, Wisconsin where they were sold exclusively at Home Depot stores and online at HomeDepot.com from May 2011 through June 2012 for about $40.

In November 2015, the product was one of 28 different recalled Home Depot products identified by the U.S. CPSC, which the home improvement superstore continued to sell even after it was discovered that they may pose serious safety risks.

At that time, the federal safety regulators indicated that several thousand different products with known recalls remained in Home Depot stores and were sold to consumers between 2012 and 2015, despite risks identified by the CPSC.
