Black+Decker 3-in-1 Blower Recall Issued Over Laceration Hazard

Nearly 600,000 Black+Decker electric blower and vacuums are being recalled, following reports of the fan covers unexpectedly detaching, resulting in finger lacerations from coming in contact with the spinning fan blade. 

The Black+Decker recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on September 13, after receiving four reports of consumers cutting their fingers on the fan blades when the housing fell off of electric blowers and vacuums.

Customers are being asked to stop using the products immediately due to the potential laceration and amputation hazards of fingers coming in contact with the fan.

The recall includes an estimated 580,000 Black+Decker 3-in-1 electric blower/vacuum/mulchers with model numbers BV5600, BV6000, and BV6600. The recall only involves the previously listed model numbers part of the “Type 1” blower/vacuum/mulchers series. The electric blowers are orange in color with black accents, a black fan cover and a two-speed switch with “Type 1” and the model number printed on the name plate. They were sold with a blower tube, a vacuum tube and a reusable collection bag.

According to the CPSC, an estimated 560,000 units were sold across the United States and an additional 20,000 were distributed for sale in Canada.

The 3-in-1 blowers were manufactured in China.They were imported and distributed by Black+Decker (U.S.) Inc., of Towson, Maryland. Units were sold at Lowes and other hardware and garden stores across the nation and online at Amazon.com and various other online retailers from May 2013 through September 2016 for between $70 and $90.
