Chrysler Airbag Recall Affects More Than 250,000 Pacifica, Voyager Vehicles: NHTSA Airbag manufacturing defects violate federal safety standards, increasing the risk of injury for vehicle occupants during a crash. July 1, 2025 Darian Hauf Add Your Comments Federal highway safety officials have announced a recall that impacts at least 250,651 Chrysler vehicles, which may contain defective airbag that could increase the risk of ejection or injury in an auto accident. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the Chrysler airbag recall on June 27, warning that certain model year 2022 through 2025 Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager vehicles may have side curtain airbags that do not retain sufficient pressure during deployment. Side curtain airbags are designed to protect vehicle occupants during side-impact collisions and rollovers. They deploy from the roof over the side windows, creating a curtain-like barrier between the occupants’ heads and the vehicle’s side structure, which helps prevent head and neck injuries, as well as reduces the risk of ejection from the vehicle. However, if these airbags do not retain proper pressure during a crash, occupant protection may be reduced and the risk of partial or complete ejection through a side window is increased, leading to serious risks of injury or death. See if you qualify for a sports betting addiction lawsuit. Learn More SEE IF YOU QUALIFY FOR COMPENSATION While the NHTSA recall report does not list any accidents or injuries linked to the airbag defect, the vehicles violate Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 226, “Ejection Mitigation,” which mandates that headforms must not move more than 100 millimeters past a set point when hit in crash tests. Chrysler first became aware of the issue on November 24, 2023, after Transport Canada identified potential airbag noncompliance during vehicle testing. Follow-up tests confirmed the issue, and Chrysler’s parent company, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), was notified on April 4, 2024. Over the following months, FCA US reviewed the test results and conducted internal testing to verify their accuracy. The company opened an investigation into certain model year 2022 through 2025 Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager vehicles suspected of having curtain airbags that did not retain sufficient pressure during deployment in September 2024. On April 23, 2025, FCA identified a supplier manufacturing issue, and on May 1 determined that all affected vehicles potentially do not comply with FMVSS No. 226. NHTSA then announced the voluntary safety recall on June 27. Affected customers will begin receiving notification letters about the safety risk over the next couple weeks. A second letter will be sent when the final fix is available. The company’s numbers for this recall are 06C, 54C and 55C.
