Britax B-Nimble Stroller Recall Issued Over Brake Failures

About 28,000 Britax B-Nimble strollers have been recalled because the brakes may appear to be engaged when they are not, which could lead to the strollers rolling away unexpectedly.

The Britax B-Nimble stroller recall was announced on June 23 by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) after Britax Child Safety, Inc., the manufacturer, received seven reports of the brake not being fully engaged. There have been no injuries reported in connection with the brake failure.

According to the CPSC, the B-Nimble stroller’s brakes give off an audible click when pressed, even though the brake has not been engaged. This may give a false impression to parents that the brake is fully in place when it is not. If a parent wrongly believes the brake to be engaged, the stroller could roll away unexpectedly, placing the child occupant in danger.

The recall affects about 20,000 B-nimble umbrella strollers sold in the U.S. and approximately 800 sold in Canada. The recalled strollers were manufactured on or after August 1, 2010 and have model numbers U311771, U311773, U311775 and U311780. They were sold in black and silver, black and white cowprint, and green and red.The model number and manufacturing date is located on the lower frame.

The strollers were sold at juveniles product and mass merchandise stores nationwide, as well as by online retailers. The strollers have been available for purchase since September 2010 for about $200.

The CPSC recommends that anyone who is using one of the affected strollers stop immediately and contact Britax for information on how to receive a replacement stroller. Consumers can contact Britax at 888-427-4829 or through their website at www.britaxusa.com.
