Chrysler Trailer Tow Module Recall Affects Nearly Half a Million Jeep, Ram Vehicles: NHTSA

Chrysler Trailer Tow Module Recall Affects Nearly Half a Million Jeep, Ram Vehicles NHTSA

A recall affecting nearly half a million Jeep and Ram vehicles has been issued by the manufacturer due to improperly designed trailer tow modules that may prevent brake lights and turn signals from illuminating.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the Ram and Jeep recall on February 3, cautioning that drivers may be unaware the trailer lighting system has failed, which could result in a rear-end crash.

A trailer tow module connects a vehicle’s electrical system to a trailer and controls the trailer’s lights, including turn signals and brake lights. If it fails and the lights do not illuminate, other drivers may not see when the vehicle is slowing or turning, increasing the risk of an auto accident.

According to the NHTSA recall report, Chrysler has received at least 108 customer assistance records, 107 warranty claims, 101 field reports and 285 repair orders potentially associated with the defect.

The recall affects 456,287 vehicles, including:

  • Model year 2025 and 2026 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500 and 5500 trucks
  • Model year 2024 through 2026 Jeep Wagoneer vehicles
  • Model year 2026 Jeep Cherokee vehicles

Chrysler became aware of the issue on August 28, 2025, after the Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance organization opened an investigation into certain Ram trucks, Jeep Wagoneer and Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a trailer tow module that may experience a loss of trailer or brake lighting.

The manufacturer ultimately determined that a safety defect existed and announced a voluntary recall on February 2.

Customers will begin receiving letters on March 24 with instructions for having the trailer tow module replaced free of charge at a local dealership.

The company’s number for the current recall is 03D. Customers can contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 or the company’s contact for this recall, Emily Smith, via email at emily.c.smith@dot.gov.

Owners with any additional questions can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 888-275-9171), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
