The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation has ordered that all federal denture adhesive cream lawsuits will be consolidated for pretrial litigation before District Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga in the Southern District of Florida. All of the lawsuits allege that Super Poligrip or Fixodent caused severe neurological damage from denture cream zinc poisoning.

In an order issued June 9, 2009, the Panel found that centralization of the cases in an MDL, or Multidistrict Litigation, is appropriate due to the common questions of fact involved in the various cases. The panel rejected an argument by Proctor & Gamble, the makers of Fixodent, that individual issues, dental and medical histories, and specific injuries were reason to consider the cases too different to consolidate.

There are currently at least 12 denture cream poisoning lawsuits pending in 11 different districts throughout the United States. Ten of the cases are Super Poligrip lawsuits filed against GlaxoSmithKline and the other two cases are Fixodent lawsuits against Proctor & Gamble.

The cases all allege that the high amounts of zinc contained in Fixodent and Poligrip can be absorbed into the body when large amounts of the denture adhesive cream is used or if it is used over a long period of time. This can cause increased zinc levels in the body and deplete copper, causing a condition known as hypocupremia, which is known to cause significant neurological problems in humans.

Plaintiffs claim to have suffered a variety of injuries from denture adhesive zinc poisoning, including neuropathy, myelopathy, anemia, bone marrow failure, central nervous system deficits and other irreversible neurological injuries. Symptoms of the denture cream problems could include numbness, tingling, pain, weakness, loss of sensation, loss of balance, paralysis or difficulty breathing.

In addition to the Poligrip and Fixodent lawsuits currently pending in federal court, any new cases filed will be transferred to Judge Altonaga, where they will be handled in a coordinated manner during pretrial litigation to avoid duplicative discovery, inconsistent rulings from different judges and to server the convenience of the parties, witnesses, attorneys and the court.

I have used the Poli-Grip and Fixodent products for a little over 10 years now. I have had numbness in my legs and feet, loss of almost all my strength in my left arm, alot of cramping and twitches in my arms and legs. I am SHOCKED that I have never heard of the zinc levels used in these products. I really would like to talk with an attorney about this. Is there one out there interested in contacting me? PLEAS!! There are lawyers who specialize in these denture cream lawsuits. If there are none in your area, you may want to go online and get their advise and directions. I was asked to do three articles about these law suits, so I know that they are still going on as planned…to sue Procter Gamble and GlaxcoSmith Kline. Homepfully those who suffer with the above symptoms will consult a physician, have blood drawn and find a lawyer who will handle the case. I am not sure if they are doing individual cases or if they are all class action litigation. I hope your mother improves, as many has been left completely debilatated from the zinc poisoning. Good luck in your search.

Would like to get some information for my mother. She has been a poligrip/fixadent customer for at least 25+ years and has experienced some neuropathy in extremities.

I FOUND OUT A YEAR AGO THAT I HAVE NEUROPATHY AND HAVE USED POLIGRIP AND FIXODENT FOR YEARS.DR.DID BLOOD WORK AND 24HOUR URINE TEST AND MY ZINC LEVELS WHERE WAY ABOVE THE NORMAL RANGE AND MY COPPER LOW SO I HAVE BEEN ON A COPPER SUKPPLIMENT FOR A YEAR AND THE COPPER IS SLOWLY COMING UP AND ZINC LOWERING YES I HAVE ZINC POISIONING AND ON MEDICATIONS I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE ON.WE HAVE FILED A LAW SUIT. PLEASE HAVE YOUR DR.DO THESE TEST IF YOU ARE FEELING YOU NEED THEM

have been using Super Poilgrip since the early 90’s along with Fixodent and only thouhgt the aches, pains and balence issues was from a good hard days work. what a joke! juat need to get to the bottom of this and be able to do full days work again

I have used Super Poligrip for over 10 years. I have suffered many painful and bothersome symptoms over the years and have been diagnosed with sensory neuropathy, which drs can’t find a cause for. Poor balance, numbness, tingling in legs and feet, body burning, blurred vision, decreased sensitivity in touch, electric shock sensations, leg cramps, tremor in arms/hands now and then. Not a good disorder to have. . .can’t tell hot hot the water is at times, have scalded myself in the shower! And all because GlaxoSmith-Kline NEVER told us on the box or tube that it contained zinc, which may cause a neuropathy.

Just found about zinc contained in fixodent. I have been using it for a short time. I am going to check out the feeling in my feet, with my doctor.
