Kids II Rocking Sleeper Recall Issued Due To Risk of Infant Deaths April 29, 2019 Russell Maas Add Your Comments Due to concerns about a suffocation risk, a recall has been issued for nearly 700,000 additional infant “rocking” sleepers sold under brand names like Ingenuity, Bright Starts, Automatic and Disney Baby, which feature a design that is similar to certain Fisher-Price sleepers recalled earlier this month following at least 32 infant deaths. Nearly 700,000 infant inclined sleepers linked to several deaths in recent years have been recalled, due to a design which can lead to children suffocating after becoming trapped against the fabric. The Kids II Rocking Sleeper recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on April 26, due to a design that may cause infants to become trapped against the fabric if they are able to roll over. Learn More SEE IF YOU QUALIFY FOR COMPENSATION Since 2012, at least five infant deaths have been linked to the products, which come in addition to those associated with Fisher-Price Rock ‘N Play infant sleepers recalled on April 17. This new recall impacts approximately 694,000 models “Rocking Sleepers” that were sold under a variety of popular product names, including Ingenuity, Bright Starts, Automatic, and Disney Baby. The sleepers are similar to bassinets, except they are designed to elevate the baby’s head and torso to help prevent acid-reflux or congestion while sleeping. The sleepers are designed for newborns and infants unable to roll over on their own. However, parents will not know the exact moment a child gains that ability. The products are equipped with restraints intended to secure the infant from rolling over or turn on their side. However, if the infant becomes unrestrained, they may turn on their side, or roll completely over and not have the proper neck strength to lift their head, creating a suffocation risk. The sleepers were manufactured in China under Kids II, Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia. They were sold at major retailers nationwide, including Walmart, Target, Toys “R” Us and also online from March 2012 through April 26, 2019 for between $40 and $80. Parents and guardians are being instructed not to put their infants in the sleepers and to stop using them immediately to prevent further injuries and deaths. Customers should contact Kids II at 1-866-869-7954 or visit their website online and click on “Important Recall Information”. Prior to the Fisher-Price recall, the CPSC issued a Fisher-Price Rock’n Play warning on April 5, instructing consumers to stop placing their infants in the sleepers before they begin to show signs they can roll over independently. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) issued a statement on April 9, calling for the commission to issue an immediate recall for the Rock’n Play Sleepers. The AAP determined the inclined sleepers were unsafe and that the CPSC warning did not go far enough to ensure the safety of infants. Following the AAP’s statement, Fisher-Price announced the recall of 4.7 million Rock’n Play Sleepers under the CPSC’s Fast Track recall process. Since the recall of Fisher-Price Rock’n Play sleepers, a number of individual wrongful death and class action lawsuits have been filed against Fisher-Price and Mattel, Inc.
