Kroger Ice Cream Recall Issued Over Risk for Individuals with Nut Allergy

|

The Kroger grocery store chain has issued a chocolate ice cream recall in 17 states for a product that fails to warn consumers that it contains tree nuts, which could cause serious and potentially life-threatening reactions for individuals with a nut allergy.ย

The Kroger ice cream recall (pdf) was announced on June 10 as a result of labeling on certain containers of Kroger Deluxe Chocolate Paradise Ice Cream. The label does not make mention of the fact that the ice cream may contain tree nuts.

Kroger has recalled the ice cream from Kroger grocery stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. The Kroger recall also resulted in ice cream being pulled from shelves in Jay C, Food 4 Less, Hilnader, Owenโ€™s, Pay Less and Scottโ€™s; all of which are Kroger-affiliated stores in Illinois and Indiana.

The recall affects 48-ounce containers of Kroger Deluxe Chocolate Paradise Ice Cream with a โ€œsell byโ€ date of Jan 24 11. The containers have a UPC Code of 11110 50712.

There have been no injuries or incidents reported in connection to the ice cream recall. Krogerโ€™s press release notes that the product is no danger to people without tree nut allergies.

The company is using a customer notification system to contact consumers about the recall. Any consumers who have bought the ice cream can return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund or replacement.
