Makita Grease Gun Recall Issued Following Reports of Laceration Injuries: CPSC

Makita Grease Gun and Hose Recall Issued Following Five Laceration Injuries: CPSC

Certain Makita grease guns and hoses have been recalled due to a defect that may cause holes to form during use, potentially ejecting grease and posing a safety risk.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the Makita grease gun recall on September 4, following at least five reports of hose failures that resulted in laceration injuries.

Makita grease guns are tools that are used to apply grease as a lubricant to certain parts of machinery and other equipment. In the case of the recalled guns, holes may develop in the hoses, which can cause grease to be ejected during use, leading to potential laceration hazards for the user.

The recall covers approximately 62,927 Makita Professional Cordless Grease Guns with model numbers XPG01S1, XPG01SR1, and XPG01Z, as well as Makita Grease Gun Hoses with model numbers 191A79-9, 191A80-4, 191W59-7, and 191W58-9.

All affected models have spring ends, with the model number shown on the manufacturer’s label on the right side of the grease gun. A full list of affected serial numbers is included in the recall notice. Serial numbers are printed on the battery mounting port of the grease gun.

The recalled grease guns were manufactured in China and sold at various hardware and home improvement stores nationwide, as well as online, from June 2020 through January 2025 for between $60 and $390.

Customers who bought one of the recalled products are advised to immediately stop using the grease guns and to contact Makita for a free replacement hose.

Makita can be contacted by phone at 800-462-5482 from 8 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, by email at greasegunrecall@makitausa.com, or online at www.makitatools.com/recall.
