Mission Archery Crossbow Recall Due to Risk of Firing Unexpectedly

About 9,500 crossbows are being recalled following reports that suggest the weapons may fire unexpectedly, posing a serious injury risk for users and bystanders.

A Mission Archery MXB crossbow recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on June 3, following reports of at least three incidents where the crossbows fired an arrow without the user pulling the trigger. To date, no injuries or deaths have been reported.

The recall includes Mission Archery crossbows with model numbers MXB 320, MXB Dagger, MXB 400, and MXB360 models, which contain serial numbers ranging from XB04879 TO XB16555.

The recalled crossbows measure between 29 and 35 inches and are equipped with an automatic safety located behind the scope mount. The crossbows were sold individually or as part of a package that included a black scope, quiver, three bolts, and a rope cocking aid. The products were sold in black, lost camouflage AT, white camouflage, or a pink camouflage pattern. Mission by Mathews is engraved on the back left side of the crossbow’s rail.

The crossbows were manufactured in the United States under Mathews Archery Inc., dba Mission Archery, of Sparta, Wisconsin where they were sold at archery and hunting sporting goods stores nationwide from May 2013 through April 2014 for between $600 and $1,300.

The CPSC advises customers to stop using the recalled crossbows and return them to either Mission Archery or an authorized dealer for a free repair to prevent the bows from misfiring. Customers may also contact Mission Archery at 844-334-8891 or visit them online at www.missionarchery.com for instructions on how to obtain free shipping for repair.
