About 1 million bottles of Redken Guts 10 spray mousse have been recalled from stores after reports of dozens of cans exploding. 

The Redken mousse recall was announced on April 12 by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) after Redken received at least 41 reports of cans rupturing, gushing out their contents. Although there have been no injuries reported in connection with the defective Redken spray mousse aerosol cans, this does pose a risk for consumers.

The CPSC reports that the aerosol cans’ liners can corrode over time, creating a risk that the cans may rupture.

The recall affects about 1 million units of Redken Guts 10 Volume Spray Mousse Foam in the 10.58-ounce and 2-ounce cans. The recall includes any cans with lot codes that do not contain G or H as the third digit and the following lot codes: 32G10Y, 32G11Y, 32G20Y, 32G21Y, 32G23Y, 32G40Y, 32G41Y, 32G60Y, 32G61Y, 32G62Y, and 32G70Y. The cans are silver with black writing and have “Redken” and “10” printed on the front. The lot codes are printed on the bottom of the cans.

The defective Redken spray mousse cans were sold at hair salons and beauty supply stores across the U.S. from January 1998 through February 2011 for between $4 and $16.

The CPSC recommends that consumers immediately stop using the spray mousse cans, copy the product’s lot code and then empty the can into a waste container in a well-ventilated area before discarding it. Consumers can use the lot code to contact Redken for information on how to receive a refund. Customers can call Redken at 1-888-241-9504.

The same thing happened to me, destroyed tons of my perfume bottles and makeup broken glass everywhere traumatized my dog! The company acts like no big deal whst if it blew up in my hand! Very dangerous!

Was woken up around 3 am to what sounded like someone breaking a window to get in our home. Come to find out bathroom cabinet mirror was blown out from the redkin mousse bottle exploding. Thank God nobody was using the bathroom. Chunks of glass were literally stuck like darts on the toilet seat. Had no idea there was any kind of recall or that this was even possible for a hair product to go off like a bomb. Our vanity mirror cabinet was destroyed and even other products had caps blown out. It was quite powerful.

Redken Guts 10 exploded under my bathroom sink at 2 am! We looked like FBI going thru the house😃Sounded like someone shot a rifle outside bedroom Made a big mess knocked all the other Redken products over and cabinet door was open Had no idea there was a recall!!!!!

I went out for an hour and when I returned my bathroom was destroyed! A medicine cabinet door was blown open and a glass shelf was blown across the room. Debris, chemicals, products, medicines strewn around the room. The culprit was a Redken Guts 10 Mousse Can that does not have the codes of the original lawsuit. Redken is still selling this product and it is still exploding!! If we had been in the bathroom when it happened, or, God forbid my small grandchildren, we would be in the hospital!

Mousse exploded leaving broken items under sink. It was so forceful that it blew my cabinet doors open and my makeup brushes were outside of it on my bathroom floor. I would appreciate receiving compensation for the broken items it caused. I have a video that I am sharing on social media when I can but Redken won’t allow comments, wonder why????

12/21/23. Heard a loud bang. Couldn’t find source. Upon going into bathroom to get ready for bed, I found a guts 10 can exploded, metal twisted, debris all over. Thank goodness no one was in the vicinity when it exploded. Never knew about a recall.

About 10:00 pm 10/2/23, we heard a boom coming from master bathroom. Thought our window exploded. Floor was slick with mousse, parts of hair product containers were all over. Looked in the vanity cupboard and discovered Redken Guts #10 split open like a hotdog. Other hair care products had caps blown off. Scared the daylights out of us. Thank God we weren’t using the products at the time.

An old Redken guts aerosol can exploded this morning just as my husband entered the bathroom. I had found it in the back of my linen closet and had set it on the vanity to throw away. My husband was half scared to death and was shocked to find himself pelted with what was left of the can, plastic bits and hair product. It’s on the ceiling, mirrors, walls, door, floor, other items on the counter top…it’s just everywhere. If there’s a class action law suit I’m all in because if this had exploded when I was holding it or closer to my husband we could have been hurt. I have photos and the can.

We heard an explosion in the middle of the night on July 24, 2023. I went into the hall bathroom and can of redken guts blown up all over the bathroom and ceiling. It was quite a mess.I have pictures of the can and the mess it made in my bathroom. Is there a class action pending on this product? How to make a claim?

I just had a huge explosion in my apartment. Scared the living daylights out of me …sounded like a window blowing out. We looked around and I saw that the doors to the bathroom cupboard had blown open and stuff was all over the floor!!. A can of Redkin 10 guts foam had exploded inside the cupboard. What a friggen mess that was to clean up!! Very scary and someone could have gotten hurt.

Came home from work and found the can on Redken 10 on the floor with a hole in it. Luckily I found this site to find out I’m not alone. If the company has been having problems with exploding cans for so many years and they’re still selling dangerous cans the public needs to know before someone is seriously injured.

We never heard about a recall of this product. Last night, November 27, 2022, after we returned from a 10 day Thanksgiving trip, we found that my wife’s can of Redken Guts 10 had exploded inside a wall cabinet. It blew out a side of the cabinet, sprayed a shower door with contents, and dumped the contents of the cabinet on the floor. We will need to replace the cabinet.

On July 8th my can of Redken Mousse exploded in my bedroom. We thought a bomb went off, we ran into the bedroom and broken glass everywhere. Knock my shadow box off of the dresser and broke it my earrings were all over. Stuff all over our hard wood floors, on the walls, closet doors our bedding and my padded bench I had at the foot of my bed. We are still finding glass in our bedroom. Also our floors were very slippery.

Last night, around 2 am I was awake by a loud noise. Apparently, a can of Guts10 exploded under my bathroom sink, blowing open the cabinet door and spraying Gut10 product everywhere. It also blew out all the products I had stored under the sink including, shampoo, and baby oil which spilled all over the floor. And the smell was awful. I’m grateful I wasn’t using the product or I would be missing a hand or half my face. I took pictures and I;m still cleaning up the mess.

On 6 April 2022 half hour after a thunderstorm I heard very loud noise. I thought a tree or something hit our home. We looked everywhere outside and in each room. Nothing was found. On 7 April 2022, I went into our guest bathroom linen closet. I saw an exploded redskins. #10 moose containers things were broken. Bottles of lotions, mouth wash, glass toothbrush holder on the floor. Contents on the wall inside of door chips of paint off. Goo and white stuff on all sheets and towels.

Last night I was woken to the sound of an explosion, after searching everywhere I looked in the cabinet and sure enough a can of the Redken Guts had exploded like a frigging bomb throwing everything everywhere and making a huge hole in my closet. My husband and I both swore it was a bomb before I found this. I sure hope that my repairs will be covered as well as missing time to clean up this mess.

Night before last we heard a loud “KaBoom!”. The Redkin 10 Guts had exploded under the bathroom sink, blasting other things into the bathroom floor because it blew the cabinet doors open. Never seen anything like it. Liquid and white powdery stuff covered every surfact under the sink. What a mess! I shudder to think the injuries that could have been caused if one had been using the can of spray at the time.

Aug 25 2021 Again like so many on here came home from work and a can of Redken hair mousse had explored in bathroom cabinet under the sink. Blew door open and broke other glass bottles of soap and shampoo. Several were on floor outside cabinet with the Redken can. A hole was in floor of cabinet the size of a football. If I had been in there I would have been hurt for sure. Never heard of a recall. Redken should have to pay for the repairs.

Just like others on here I had an exploded canna Redken Guts. I walked into my bathroom and noticed wood pieces all over the carpet in front of the cabinet. I open the cabinet in complete disbelief that this can add completely split open and exploded. Metal pieces everywhere destroyed other toiletries stored in the bathroom cabinet along with blowing a huge hole through a wooden basket, damaging the cabinets and everything else under the sink. Not to mention the disgusting smell and atrocious mess to be cleaned. I am sure this bottle is newer than 2011. This is scary, sharp metal pieces everywhere. Thank God me or either of my two small children were not in there when this happened. I will never buy another Redken products in my entire life.

Just started my shower today when I heard an explosion and crashing sounds. Redken can on the floor with a hole on the bottom part of the side of the can. Cabinet , walls, floor and toiletry items covered in liquid. Still shaking from the shock. I thought that something had crashed through the ceiling or that pipes had burst.

My Redken can just exploded too! Same story. Loud explosion, blew my cabinet doors open along with several items all over the floor. The can had a big hole in it that looked ripped open about the size of a golf ball. The insides were bubbly copper color. The entire cabinet was saturated in a sticky mess. All products and flat irons/blow dryers are destroyed due to the liquid damage. Scrapnel everywhere. The wood looks as though its going to have to be replaced due to the amount of liquid. This is a nightmare.

5/24/21 at 8:30 PM our can exploded in the vanity cabinet of our bathroom. Sounded like a gunshot, blew open the cabinet door, all items were blown out of the cabinet and onto the walls, floor and bathtub! The top of the can and the bottom of the can were blown off the remainder of the can was mangled but appeared to remain intact, however there was what appeared to be a white porcelain something that was broken in many many pieces.

Today, May 23, 2021, we heard a loud bang, I grabbed a gun and ran to the master bathroom. A cabinet door was open with its contents blown across the room with a gooey mess combined with shampoo that took some of the explosive force. After all of the bottles and cans were cleaned up as well as the floor and 360 degrees of mess in the cabinet, I took photos of the ripped apart Redken bottle and Googled “Redken explosion” and here is where I landed. Incredible. I heard of aerosols exploding in a fire, but never without a reason. That is super dangerous.

Yesterday while I was working. My Redken mousse can exploded. I first thought it was a gun shot and dropped to the floor in the office. I called my boyfriend who calmed me down and had me look outside as he thought the noise might have been a car accident. Nope…I walked around the house thinking maybe a picture frame fell off the wall. Nope.. but I noticed the cupboard in the main bathroom was open with a few things on the floor..and inside this can had exploded. Looks like shrapnel and pieces everywhere.

1:30 AM May 3, 2021… It sounded like a bomb went off! A can of Redken guts 10 exploded under my bathroom sink, damaging most other items stored in that cabinet and the paint on the edge of the cabinet was peeled away, leaving bare wood. Other cans are laid flat from the blast in a pattern outward from where the can had been… scary! I found one triangular piece of shrapnel almost an inch long. I had spent days trying to find out what had caused that terrifying bang when I went under my sink to get some product and saw what had happened. This can was purchased more recently than 2011 and the lot number on the bottom of the can looks like GD346EZ, and below it is 20:49.

I was in my bathroom when a can of Redken mousse Guts 10 had exploded in the closet behind me. I was not injured but it scared me half to death! It made a hellacious mess ruining some containers of color and sprays that were on the shelf next to it.

I just found an exploded can of the Redken Guts 10 in my linen cupboard. It also exploded another Redken product and damaged some other haircare product containers. My can had a different number than the ones they identified (G8161C–although the 8 could also be a ‘B’). I was shocked that the original recall was so many years ago. I don’t know how long I’ve had this can.

Hi… today is September 16, 2020. 10 minutes ago a Redken product purchased by my wife exploded while it was under the sink. The explosion was strong enough that I could actually feel the concussion of the blast when it exploded. I was @ 15 feet away. The LOT number on the bottom of the can is GD319EZ. Below there’s an additional marking of 17:40. It blew into 4 pieces and obviously made a mess under the sink. I’m just glad my wife wasn’t standing in the bathroom or using the product. The lot numbers provided above don’t match the lot number from this can.

I came home to a mess in my bathroom closet today, August 22, 2020. My can of Redken guts had exploded. The metal can is all splayed open. One item from the closet was on the bathroom floor and must have been blown right out the oak doors. The plastic bin the mousse had been stored in was broken to bits on one end and everything in the cupboard was coated with little white flakes, with liquid on the shelving and inside other plastic storage bins. I feel fortunate after reading the damage some people had. I can’t even image the noise the explosion must have made! I’d never heard of the recall or read about this before so I was pretty shocked.

I had a Redken guts/mousse can explode at 10:45 pm on August 9, 2020. It sounded like a gun shot. It blew the can wide open and the contents flew everywhere. It was a real mess. Everything in my vanity closet and my carpet was covered in the sticky debris.

This happened to me today, July 4th, 2020 at 9:59am at Lake Mary, FL. The Redken product exploded like a b0mb and blew up my bathroom cabinet to pieces and destroyed all my products inside things near it, and part of the bathroom wall. It was very scary experience, I was just about to go to the bathroom. I don’t think I would have survived if I was in the bathroom. I just had it remodeled this year and now I have to remodel it again. I’m sooo pissed. I could have died or become disabled with a blown up face if I was 2 minutes earlier in the bathroom. I’m never buying any Redken product again!

Seems to be a common tale. Same exploding can, vanity cabinet doors blown open, mess everywhere. Luckily no-one hurt. Saw a thread that mentioned “the exploding can club” – love it. I am actually dismayed by the number of complaints – just on this one site. Redken mentioned 41 instances but on this page alone there over 53 – and some fairly recent ones too. I’m guessing there are hundreds more. Furthermore, the lot number on my exploded can is not part of the lot mentioned in their supposed recall. Pity no-one seems to be held accountable…

Exact same exploding Redken hair spray can, blown-open bathroom cabinet doors, and metal and plastic shrapnel everywhere as reported by Heather and Betty on June 5 and 18, 2020, respectively. I was a bit naive thinking we were the first ones and dutifully reported it to Redken on June 18th the day after the incident. My wife was in the bathroom at the time and thank heavens the can was in the bathroom cabinet. But this is scary.

This can exploded in our bathroom closet around 10pm last night June 17, 2020, very loud explosion- can was blown in 4 parts- very scary! Numerous cans and bottles were in the closet and were also blown apart! Tops were shredded and blown all over the closet walls, doors and shelves! Everything had to be removed and thrown away and washed everything that was left! Obviously the recall did not get out to all concerned! If I had been at the dressing table I would have been insured – no doubt!

Still cleaning up the sticky mess on bathroom counter, floor and shelves in cabinet where can was stored. Cabinet doors blown open and metal fragments, other container fragments (broken by the can exploding) and other bottles/cans scattered over bathroom. Explosion was very loud!!

1:30 AM heard a very loud explosion bin my bathroom. I found a can of Matrix Guts blown apart and it’s contents on the floor with little balls of gelled product. I didn’t know there was a recall until I looked up exploding cans. I had no idea this could even happen. Luckily I wasn’t holding it at the time.

We can now join the elite club of the exploding can. My husband thought it was thunder – but it wasn’t – a piece went through a bottle of mouthwash – and it drained on everything. glass and metal were everywhere. we had no idea there was a recall. someone needs to have an effective way to get the word out. it could have been Seriously bad – instead of just a few injuries, and material items damaged.

My Grandma had a can of this under the sink in her bathroom. It just exploded on Sat night. The explosion was so loud it triggered the glass break sensor for the bedroom window and set the alarm off. To say it scared us is an understatement!!

Very interesting reading about this recall and the comments. I was woken at 1 AM due to an explosive noise. My son came downstairs too and we looked everywhere for the cause. It wasn’t until the morning that I found my bathroom cabinet door open with other product and pieces of an exploded can on the floor. I’m still digging out pieces of the can from my cabinet. I had to Google “can exploding” since I was in disbelief that this could happen. Now I know why because, sure enough, it was a Redken Guts 10 product that I rarely used. I never knew about this recall so many years ago. Wow…scary stuff!

OMG! I thought one of my windows was hit with a rock – the explosion was that loud, I felt like my heart stopped! My whole bathroom covered with mousse – had to clean and wipe off. Beauty products “sitting” with the can was scattered all over the bathroom… SMH! This is dangerous~!

Woke with a start last night at 3am thinking the chimney was falling in. Jumped out of bed and walked towards the door finding the carpet to be all wet. Turned on the light to find white mousse and debris everywhere and the Redken can ripped apart and embedded into the wooden wall nearby. Luckily the can had flown in the direction of the wall and not towards the mirror or our bed! All other products and the lamp on my dresser were scattered around, clothes and walls and pictures covered in mousse and when I got back into bed I found the top of another hairspray next to my pillow at least 6 meters away! Got to let my hairdresser and everyone I know to get rid of any old Redken mousse cans. Scarey.

Wow what a way to start Valentines Day. About 9:00 am I was downstairs in the kitchen when a loud explosion happened upstairs. I was terrified as I checked every room. OMG when I looked in the bathroom doorway I couldn’t believe my eyes, the mirrored door of my tri fold mirrored medicine cabinet was on the floor, broken mirror shattered everywhere. Everything blown out of the cabinet, Guts 10 product dripping from the walls and ceiling. The ripped open can lay in the sink. Never heard of any recall. REALLY REDKIN!!!!!!

This happened to me also! I was in bed asleep and was awaken by an explosion at 1:30 am. I thought it was something outside. Got up to look around outside and found nothing. I discovered a can of Redken Gut 10 Mousse had blown my bathroom cabinet doors open and everything in the cabinet was on the floor. The side of my cabinet was completely detached from the cabinet. Everything was a mess and sticky goo on everything! The bottom of the mousse can was completely blown off and the cap was blown into pieces and the rest of the can looked like a can of open biscuits. Other products in my cabinet were also dented and ruined. I have never heard of a recall on this. This could have been a serious injury if my 22 month old granddaughter would have been standing in front of the bathroom cabinet. This is very dangerouse to anyone!

This just happened to my 97-year-old mother. Luckily she was in the living room and it exploded in her bathroom. Scared her so bad. She was just getting ready to go brush her teeth and thank goodness it happened before she went in.

Well this just happened to us at 4 am. Sounded like a bomb went off. After going from room to room we discovered that the vanity doors were blown open and contents of the vanity were all over. Thank GOD I had flip flops on as pieces of metal, plastic and contents of product was everywhere. I took tons of pictures and am still shocked this happened. Curious how companies have recalls and how purchasers get notified?

Like some of you, I had this product for awhile and did not realize there had been a recall. The day before Thanksgiving there was what sounded like a bomb going off in my house. When I checked the middle bedroom, I saw the exploded can on the floor, mousse all over the floor and mirrors. It also broke a plastic organizer it was in. I took photos. There were no personal injuries due to the explosion.

This is a warning for anyone having Redken Gut 10 Mousse in their vanity. I realize I had this product for quite some time but on September 24, 2019 at 2 AM my husband and I were awakened by a very loud explosion. We checked the house, looked outside, and in our basement but found absolutely nothing. It was very scary. The next day I was in one of our bathrooms and noticed the bottom drawer of our vanity was open. I tried to close it and found it was off the track. When I really looked inside I found dried product ALL OVER inside the drawer. Laying in the midst of it all was the gray can of Gut 10 Mousse with the side of the can blown out of it. The force of the explosion was strong enough to blow the drawer open and off the track. In addition it blew the back of the drawer completely off!!! I am grateful that I or one of my granddaughters was not trying to use the product when this happened. If you have this product in your home please get rid of it immediately.
