Rite Aid Rich Fields Cookie Recall Over Bacterial Contamination November 1, 2011 Staff Writers Add Your Comments About 85,000 tins of Rich Fields Butter Cookies, sold at Rite Aid stores nationwide, have been recalled because they may have bacterial contamination. The Rich Fields cookie recall was announced by the FDA and Rite Aid on October 29, due to the possible presence of Bacillus cereus bacteria. Although there have been no reports of food poisoning reported in connection to the recalled cookies, Bacillus cereus is responsible for about two percent of all foodborne illness, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Illness comes within 24 hours after exposure and can result in a diarrheal illness, as well as vomiting and nausea. Serious illness and permanent injury are very rare. P. May 14, 2012 RE: “Although there have been no reports of food poisoning reported in connection to the recalled cookies,..” I BEG TO DIFFER!!! I WAS HOSPITALIZED. Deborah November 14, 2011 I purchased some butter cookies from Rite Aid, and did eat the product several times before receiving a telegram from Rite Aid that this product was being recalled. most of the packages I had thrown away, but one of the tins I did keep, and when I checked the UPC codes of the recall it was the same on the tins I had purchased and ate. I did feel symptoms of Nausea and diarrhea, but thought the symptoms were of other reasons.I did go to my doctor, and he did prescribe medication, but I was still eating the cookies because they are a favorite of mine–I did not know of the recall until much later, and I have no idea as to just how many of these cookies I have bought and eaten, I only have the one container I saved. I need information as to what steps I need to take for my pain and suffering of this product Taryn November 3, 2011 I ate the cookies and about a month 3 weeks ago I began having stomach issues! I have had severe diarrhea and nausea and vomiting as well as intense stomach pains! I have been to 2 doctors about this issue and I am still going thru all this pain! Then I got the phone call about the cookies 3 days ago! I have missed 2 weeks of work going on 3 due to this illness! I will never buy these cookies Again for they have put a dent in my life these past couple of weeks! donna November 3, 2011 I purchased 2 tins of these cookies aprox 3 to 4 wks ago I was saving them for my grand children for Christmas. A full REFUND!!! Thanks a LOT That is real BIG of this company. Just MAYBE I’ll consider another Drug Stor CHAIN as my Drug store of CHOICE!! Robin November 3, 2011 I purchased two tins of these cookies and gave one to my grandmother who is 96 years old and I kept the other one and have been eating on it until now. I became sick shortly after purchasing and reticulum these cookies but did not know it was them making me sick. I suffered nausea/vomiting and diarrhea with bad abdominal pain which I ended up going to medexpress over and I missed 3 days of work due to the abdominal pain and diarrhea . I also had made a visit to my doctors office because of the severe diarrhea and pain – thought perhaps it was IBS but now I believe it was indeed these cookies that made me sick. I even had a US of the abdomen which showed me to have a enlarged spleen which my doctor says could be caused by an infection- I plan on calling my doctor to inform him of this recall and see if there is a test that can be done to tell if this was indeed what made me sick. I do not feel well yet and think this may be the culprit. I still have a few cookies in the tin which I of course will not eat now!!! Never dreamed I bought BAD cookies but thankful that I received a phone call about the recall before I ate any more of these cookies! I just wonder if I could get reimbursed for my time missed at work and medical bills paid ?? I am suffering from losing pay because of no sick time to cover days missed. Going to call my doctor in the morning. I verified the numbers on the Tin with those on this site and they match! Eileen November 3, 2011 My mother bought cookies and we were deathly sick definitely food poisoning I had it in my 20’s and 30’s so I know we both had it I was sick sweep and mom week and a half good thing my husband didn’t eat them Karen November 3, 2011 I’ve been sick for two weeks with nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps.Thought I had the flu until Rite Aid automated service called my home yesterday about the contaminated cookies. I ate more than a few cookies, and I’ve no doubt that’s what made me sick. Still weak as water. Angela November 3, 2011 I purchased the cookies about 5wks ago and have lost 22 lbs in the last approximately 2 mos been back and forth to the doctors 2x and to the er 1x and now am referred to go see a gastroenterologist on the 21st my blood count showed I have an infection, although they dont know what it is, I have been on phenegan for the past few weeks because of nausea, vomiting and numerous throwing up episodes as well as diarrhea. I have consulted an attorney, and after the appointment with the gastroenterologist on the 21st I am to call him back. They did ultrasound on my stomach, and found NOTHING WRONG. I had surgery on my neck 4yrs ago and pulled my neck because of the rapid throwing up and dry heaves. I just found out last night about the recall Nov 1st, and now my doctor whom I talked to today, is willing to do cultures. When I called customer service, the lady I spoke to her name was Courtney and needless to say she was not very pleasant or sympathetic to the issue! Ronald November 2, 2011 I purchased two tins of these cookies at a Rite Aid in Moreno Valley CA. After eating them I became ill and until I received a call from Rite Aid’s automated system telling me of the recall of these cookies I did not know why I have problems with my digestive system. Mary November 2, 2011 Had heart attack Oct. 6, with complications of Ischemic Colitis afterward. Colitis appeared to be improving, bought Christmas cookie tin on Oct. 18. Diarrhea got much worse, constant running & lost 8 lbs. Very weakened condition. Had stool samples done and doctor will get results tomorrow. I am not a happy camper that it took so long to receive the recall notice, which was several days after the cookies were finished, and weeks of suffering!! Gail November 2, 2011 15yr.old grandaughter at hospital last night.Dr. said colitis, she has been eating the Christmas cookies from Rite aid.Today found out about the recall. She had been having stomach issues last two weeks, then got worse. It will be interesting if they find that bacteria that was found in christmas cookies.will know tomorrow. She had been eating cookies the last two weeks.
