Safe Driving Emphasized by Partnership Between Amazon and GHSA This Holiday Season

Amazon has teamed up with the Governor’s Highway Safety Association (GHSA) to promote safe driving during the peak shopping and delivery season of the year.

Amazon delivers over 20 million online packages worldwide each day, a number that skyrockets during the holiday season as online shopping reaches its peak. According to holiday shopping trends reported by Insurify, 84% of Americans plan to purchase at least some of their gifts online this year, with 12% intending to complete all their shopping exclusively through online platforms.

The rise in online shopping means more delivery vehicles on the road, increasing congestion and the risk of auto accidents. This is particularly true in residential areas, where frequent stops and unpredictable parking can catch distracted drivers off guard.

Given the drastic increase in delivery activity during the holiday season, Amazon and the Governor’s Highway Safety Association (GHSA) issued a series of Delivery Driver Holiday Road Safety Tips on December 9, which emphasizes the importance of slowing down in residential areas, avoiding distractions while driving, and staying alert for pedestrians and other delivery personnel to promote road safety.

“Holiday deliveries don’t magically arrive at our doorstep. Small actions – like slowing down and moving over for stopped delivery vehicles – can make a huge difference in ensuring the safety of the hard-working folks who are delivering joy to you and your loved ones this holiday season,” GHSA Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Adkins said.

The announcement also outlines a series of actions that homeowners can take as well, by making sure their driveways and sidewalks are clear of ice or snow, turning on outdoor lighting and keeping pets inside.
