Sunbeam Countertop Oven Recall Issued Following Multiple Burn Injuries: CPSC

Sunbeam Countertop Oven Recall Issued Following Multiple Burn Injuries: CPSC

Consumers are being advised to immediately stop using select Sunbeam Oster French Door Countertop Ovens due to their potential to cause burn injuries to users.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the Sunbeam Oster countertop oven recall on September 25, after receiving at least 95 reports of the doors unexpectedly closing and causing burn injuries, including two cases of second-degree burns.

The oven recall comes as Sunbeam, along with several other major manufacturers, already face multiple pressure cooker explosion lawsuits nationwide due to burn injuries allegedly caused by design defects and safety failures associated with those separate products.

The lawsuits allege that certain newer pressure cooker models have faulty safety features that allow the lid to be removed while the contents are still under pressure, causing scalding hot food or liquid to be forcefully ejected and resulting in serious burn injuries to users, children or others nearby.

The Sunbeam countertop oven recall affects approximately 1,290,000 Oster French Door Countertop Ovens, which feature spring-loaded, double-sided glass doors with metal handles, and the name “Oster” engraved on the front bottom right, with model numbers:

  • TSSTTVFDXL
  • TSSTTVFDDG
  • TSSTTVFDMAF
  • TSSTTVFDDAF

The model number is located on a label on the back of the oven or on the original packaging. The four affected models vary by cooking features and control panel design.

These countertop ovens were manufactured in China and sold nationwide from August 2015 through July 2025 at retailers such as Bed Bath & Beyond, Costco, Walmart and others, as well as online through Amazon and Overstock. Prices ranged from $140 to $250.

Consumers are urged to stop using the recalled ovens immediately and contact Sunbeam Products Inc. to request a free repair kit. The kit includes a clip-on attachment designed to increase door-holding force for added safety when reaching into the oven. It also comes with repair instructions and a link to a step-by-step installation video.

Pressure Cooker Lawsuits

Over the past year, numerous pressure cooker lawsuits have been filed nationwide against various brands, including Sunbeam, following burn injuries caused by these devices.

In a lawsuit brought earlier this week, a Michigan woman claims that Sunbeam sold a defective Crock-Pot pressure cooker, which caused her to suffer severe burn injuries when the lid unexpectedly exploded.

This past June, a federal judge upheld a $9.1 million verdict in a lawsuit involving a burn victim whose Crock-Pot pressure cooker exploded. That same month, a separate Crock-Pot lawsuit was filed, alleging that the product’s safety features failed to prevent severe burns.

A pressure cooker lawsuit filed last month also alleges that a woman suffered severe burn injuries when the lid of her Farberware pressure cooker, sold exclusively through Walmart, exploded. Earlier this month, Walmart faced another lawsuit when a separate pressure cooker sold by the company exploded, causing severe burn injuries.
