Tristar Power Quick Pot Pressure Cooker Warning Issued After 24 Malfunction Reports

Tristar Power Quick Pot Pressure Cooker Warning Issued After 24 Malfunction Reports

Federal regulators are urging consumers to immediately stop using certain Tristar Products Power Quick Pot electric pressure cookers over concerns that defective safety mechanisms may allow the lids to open while the appliances are still pressurized.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued the Tristar Products Power Quick Pot 6-Quart safety warning on October 15, after the manufacturer refused the agency’s request to recall the affected pressure cookers or provide consumers with a remedy.

Electric Pressure Cooker Injury Concerns

The Tristar Products Power Quick Pot is an electric pressure cooker designed with safety mechanisms intended to prevent the lid from being opened until internal pressure has been fully released.

However, similar safety concerns have led to several pressure cooker recalls and a number of pressure cooker lawsuits in recent years, involving appliances sold under brands such as Instant Pot, Crock-Pot and Ninja Foodi.

The complaints allege that defective lid-locking mechanisms and other safety features may allow consumers to open pressure cookers while they remain pressurized, causing scalding food, liquid and steam to erupt from the appliances.

These incidents can result in severe burn injuries, sometimes requiring hospitalization, skin grafts and extensive medical treatment.

Tristar Power Quick Pot Pressure Cooker Warning

The CPSC warning affects approximately 393,000 Tristar Products Power Quick Pot 6-Quart pressure cookers, model Y6D-36.

The affected appliances feature stainless steel cooking containers, black lids and front-mounted button controls with a digital display showing temperature and cooking functions. The words “Power Quick” appear on the front, while the model number is printed on a label on the back.

According to the CPSC, regulators received 24 reports of the pressure cookers opening while still pressurized, causing scalding food and liquid to be expelled onto consumers. Some incidents have resulted in serious burn injuries.

Because Tristar Products refused to recall the affected pressure cookers or provide a remedy, the CPSC is urging consumers to immediately stop using the appliances, refrain from selling or giving them away and discard them to prevent further injuries.

The affected pressure cookers were manufactured in China and imported by Tristar Products Inc. of Altamonte Springs, Florida. They were sold through Walmart.com, Amazon.com, eBay.com and other retailers nationwide from July 2016 through November 2023 for $44 to $160.

Consumers can report injuries, malfunctions or other safety incidents involving the pressure cookers through www.SaferProducts.gov.

Pressure Cooker Explosion Lawsuits

As concerns continue to emerge about defective safety mechanisms, pressure cooker injury lawyers are reviewing potential claims on behalf of consumers who suffered severe burns and other injuries, including whether users may be entitled to compensation through individual lawsuits or class action litigation.

Last month, a product liability lawsuit was filed against Amazon, alleging a 3-in-1 stainless steel pressure cooker sold by the company malfunctioned during use and caused scalding hot contents to be forcefully ejected onto two consumers.

Individuals injured by malfunctioning pressure cookers, or whose family members were harmed, can request a free consultation and case evaluation to determine whether they have grounds to pursue legal action.
