TNF Blockers Receive Black Box Warning About Risk of Childhood Cancer
The FDA announced Tuesday that a new “Black Box” warning will be required on Remicade, Enbrel, Humira, Cimzia and Simponi about an increased risk risks of cancer in children. All of the medications fall under the classification of TNF blockers, which are used to treat inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and Crohn’s disease.
Simponi Fungal Infection Warning Issued by FDA
The FDA issued a MedWatch Alert on Thursday to remind doctors about the potential side effects of Simponi, a recently-approved drug for treatment of arthritis, which can increase the risk of serious fungal infections. Delays in recognizing the infections and starting patients on antifungal treatments could result in potentially life-threatening injuries.
Black Box Warning for Remicade, Enbrel and Other Rheumatoid Arthritis Drugs about Risk of Fungal Infection
The FDA has issued an alert to healthcare providers about the risk of a serious fungal infection which may develop in users of rheumatoid arthritis drugs Remicade, Humira, Enbrel and Cimzia. The agency indicates that new information will be added to the drugs’ black box warnings about the risk.
