Oscar Mayer Hot Dog Recall Issued Over Cheese Weiner Mix-up

|

Kraft foods has announced a recall for approximately 96,000 pounds of Oscar Mayer Classic Wieners, due to a risk that they may accidentally contain cheese dogs, putting consumers at risk of known allergens that could cause severe adverse health consequences.

The Oscar Mayer hot dog recall was announced by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on April 20, after Kraft Foods received at least one customer complaint that a package of Classic Wieners contained Cheese Wieners.

The manufacturer has determined that the problem occurred due to a labeling mix-up.

The recall includes Kraft 16 ounce packages of “Classic Wieners made with Turkey & Chicken, Pork Added” with a “Use By” date of June 16, 2014 and product code 044700000632 and also cases of 16 ounce packages of “Classic Cheese Dogs Made with Turkey & Chicken, Pork Added, and pasteurized Cheese Product” with “Use By” date of June 16, 2014 and case code 00447000005300. The packages are marked with the establishment number “Est. 537H” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The products were manufactured by Kraft Foods Group, Inc., of Columbia, Missouri from March 2, through March 3, 2014 and distributed to Kraft distribution centers and retail stores nationwide.

Kraft indicates that there have been no reports of injuries associated with the consumption of the products but encourage those with food allergies to be cautious and contact their healthcare provider immediately if they believe they may have consumer a known allergen.

The action has been categorized as a class I recall, which is the most serious designation, reserved for situations where there is a reasonable probability that consumption of the food will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.

Customers with questions concerning the recall should contact Kraft Relations at 855-688-4386 or visit the FSIS website at AskKaren.gov or call 1-888-674-6854 for food safety related questions.
