Amazon Steam Sauna Lawsuit Alleges Manastin Product Exploded, Causing Severe Burns

Amazon Steam Sauna Lawsuit Alleges Manastin Product Exploded, Causing Severe Burns

A Georgia man has filed a product liability lawsuit alleging a portable home sauna lacked adequate safety features to prevent dangerous pressure buildup, exposing users to the sudden release of scalding water and steam.

The complaint (PDF) was brought by Hudson Warden in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia on October 7, naming Haily Inc., Yongkang Tongying Electronic Technology Co. Ltd., Saili Electronic Technology Co. Limited, VM Innovations Inc., Amazon.com Inc., Amazon.com Sales Inc. and Amazon.com Services LLC as defendants.

Warden claims the incident caused second-degree burns, including blistering injuries that required emergency treatment and subsequent care at a hospital burn clinic.

Personal Sauna Dangers

The Manastin portable steam sauna is designed for at-home use, combining an enclosed sauna tent with a steam generator. The product is marketed as a convenient home spa.

While portable saunas have gained popularity in recent years for their advertised health benefits, lawsuits have raised concerns about potentially dangerous designs that can expose users to scalding water and steam, causing serious burn injuries.

Last month, a California man filed a lawsuit against SaunaBox after his SmartSteam Pro water tank allegedly exploded, causing severe burns across his legs, chest, arms and hand. The man maintains his injuries are permanent or continuing and could result in future financial losses.

Steam Sauna Injury Allegations

According to the complaint, Warden purchased a Manastin Portable Steam Sauna from Amazon on February 26, 2026. When he attempted to start the sauna on March 13, the steam generator allegedly exploded, spraying boiling water and steam onto his forehead, the right side of his face and his right leg.

The incident reportedly left Warden with second-degree burns, including blistering injuries to his face and burns extending from his right thigh to his ankle. He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for emergency treatment and later received additional care at the hospital’s burn clinic.

Warden alleges the sauna lacked independent safety certification and adequate safeguards to prevent excessive heat and pressure buildup, which could cause the lid to separate and release scalding water and steam.

The lawsuit claims the defendants knew or should have known about these dangers, noting that the product’s operating manual specifically warned that the steam generator’s cover could pop open during use. The manual also instructed consumers not to open the lid or disconnect the steam pipe while the machine was operating.

Warden further alleges that similar products had experienced explosive failures resulting in burn injuries, yet the defendants failed to adopt adequate safety measures or provide sufficient warnings to protect consumers.

“Defendants failed to design the product in such a way so that an explosive event would not occur and/or failed to warn users that an explosive event could occur, resulting in serious burn injury.”

— Hudson Warden v. Haily Inc. et al.

The lawsuit raises allegations of design defect, failure to warn, breach of express and implied warranties, negligence, wantonness and failure to recall or retrofit the product. It seeks compensatory and punitive damages, including compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, permanent scarring and disfigurement.
