Just For Men Lawsuits

MANUFACTURER: Combe Inc.

OVERVIEW: “Just For Men” hair coloring was originally released in 1987, and is advertised as a hair, beard and mustache dye specifically to cover up gray hair for men.

There are a host of products in the line, from beard and mustache coloring kits to hair and side burns and even some that are designed to add a touch of gray to hair.

Over the past few years, concerns have emerged about the growing number of reports involving severe chemical burns and other allergic reactions among “Just for Men” users.

The side effects of Just For Men may include:

  • Allergic reactions
  • Burning of the skin
  • Swelling of the skin
  • Severe itching
  • Blisters and weeping sores
  • Trouble breathing due to throat swelling

“JUST FOR MEN” ALLERGIC REACTIONS: Hundreds of reports have been submitted by men who had used the product for years but suddenly suffered severe chemical burns and swelling of the face. In many cases, the “Just for Men” problems emerge long after the dye was first used.

While some have speculated that the company may have changed the formulation of Just For Men, Combe officials have publicly denied that. Sudden allergic reactions among men may also be linked to changes in body chemistry among users.

“Just For Men” dye contains p-Phenylenediamine, an organic compound that is considered one of the most prevalent allergens in the world.

In May 2009, the medical journal Dermatitis listed it as the tenth most prevalent allergen in patch tests, and it was declared Allergen of the Year by the American Contact Dermatitis Society in 2006.

Same exact problems. Shocking that this product is still on the market. Wish I had found this site before using JFM. Very strange how there is no negative response to the product until a day or two after. Then the weeping puss, swelling, blotchy red sores develop. This product is crap.

I am having the same issue as many are describing here. A large area of my chin is covered with painful weeping sores from about 24 hours after product use. Can’t go to clinic for a treatment at the moment, due to UK Covid-19 lock-down rules, so am taking antihistamine to treat. Have used the product many times in the past without experiencing such issues, so something seems to have changed.

recently turned 40 and wanted to grow a beard , but was afraid of to many white hairs , so I decided to use just JFM at first did the trick , but after using since November , I noticed all the symptoms the itchy red skin , the puffing and eventual pussing of the beard , and even scarring .. the pain is unbearable and last a few days .. f$&@ this ! Not worth losing my skin and potential cancer

I am 60,been using for 6 months, now have severe itchy skin and discharge of sticky liquid from sores.

I am a 65 year old black man and I have been using JFM Mustache and Bears since 2014. In the past, one application would last two to three weeks. Over the past several months, the same application lasts only a few days to a week and there is irritation associated with it. At first I thought that I was developing a cold sore but realized that the itching, burning, and blistering was from JFM. I am careful to apply petroleum to my lips and face before every application and rinse with a quality deactivator and shampoo afterwards. I also use an astringent (Witch Hazel) and Aloe to help the healing. I am so disappointed that this product is no longer meeting my needs and putting my health in danger.

I used this product years ago in my beard and mustache and had no problem whatsoever. If anything, it improved my facial hair a lot. I just recently used it again, and my facial hair felt really, really coarse. I did everything as instructed, went about the day just fine. Next day upon waking, chin area was a little tender, but not to the point where one would think anything was “wrong”. Later in the day, I felt my chin area was feeling “tight” and itchy. The itchiness got worse the following day and chin region is swollen pretty bad. Trying not to go to the hospital just yet during this COVID-19 ep, but the weeping, itching and swelling is becoming annoying. Been taking ibuprofen and tumeric with black pepper to try to calm the inflammation. I will NEVER use this product again. Feels like this will leave a deformity.

Used product for last 6 months fine dark brown. Last time had bit rash but thought was just a random rash from other thing but after useing yesterday I’m 100% sure this product put these embarrassing swelling blisters on my lips so I know it’s the cause I’m usually spotless. This shouldn’t be allowed how can it be good and work then make you break out like this after it working. I hope someone pays for this.

Mike
I’ve used this product on my beard for the past few months with no problems and recently bought a new box. I used the new box a couple of weeks ago and noticed itching face and swollen lips, however, I assumed it was an allergy from something I was breathing in a burned out building I was working in. I applied again yesterday and noticed the same itchy, red face and painfully swollen lips. Will never use again. (I’d performed the allergy test a couple of times in the past with no problems so assumed I’d not need to continue) Hoping this goes away in a few days like last time.

I’m 55 now and been using JFM mustache beard color for the past 10 years and here about 8 months ago started to experience some skin itching on my chin beard area and as I would use it more the itching and redness spread around chin area and got worst. I decided to stop using product 2/2020 due to scars and bleeding and itching. As of today 4/2020 no more itching or scratching, been using lotion on my scars to clean up my face. I do miss my mustache and beard. JFM did make some changes on their products cause I never had this problem before.

Purchases JFM mustache and beard color M50. Applied as directed on a Saturday afternoon. Mild itching followed the next day. By the second day swelling, redness, and itching increase. On the third day (today), itching and irritation was unbearable and I took my clippers to cut the hair to remove dye. Skin shows raised, red, swollen, skin irritation. Holding off on going to Urgent Care since we’re going through a major coronavirus pandemic in my town. Won’t be using this product again. Used in the past with zero issues. Company changed something in the product.

I hadn’t used the Just For Men mustache and beard hair color in a couple of years. I used it a week ago for the first time. I left the treatment on 2-3 minutes. 4 days later i used it again. It started burning instantly. I kept it on thinking it would be ok for 2 minutes. After a couple of hours i got red bumps, swelling and puss. A day later the red bumps, puss and pain still persists. Now my lips are swollen. I’ll never use this product again

Darren
I finally figured out that this stuff is what has been causing my severe itching, slight rash, and at first lower lip severely chapped on day 2, and then severely swollen on day 3, and the passing to both lips being very swollen. My lips are burning, itching and peeling consistently, along with beyond poison ivy type itching. I am a white 58 year old male. Don’t use this product. Also, allergic to nothing and take no meds whatsoever. No funky diet, just a normal guy. So, this crap is the cause no doubt.

Shawn
I just used just for me as directed and it has chemically burned my face itching like crazy now starting to blister.

Isaac
I used JFM in black on my mustashe area. Was fine for the first day but the next day i woke up with a sore rash where i had applied it. I thought nothing of it, put a bit of cream on it and got on with my day. Woke up the day after that to see it had completely broken out, It was constantly weeping, to the point where i had to constantly carry tissues with me to control it as it would literally drip down my face every 2 mins. I went to the hospital about it on the 3rd or 4th day as it was getting uncontrollable (This is during the corona virus lockdown in UK so i tried to refrain from going to the hospital) They perscribed me anti biotics and the strongest steroid cream they could use on my face and sent me on my way. I have been using these for over a week now and it still hasnt fully healed and has left red, scar-like marks on my face where the dye had been applied that showing no sign of healing at the moment.

Larry
I used the stuff I have skin issues and occasional pus bumps and burning skin irritation

i’m 45 years old and have been using Just for Men Beard Dye #40 Medium/Dark Brown for over a year. I would use it two times a week to touch up the grey in my beard and mustache. Earlier this month I applied the product and it burned the longer it stayed on. I left it on for 5 minutes as directed like I always do and then took a shower to remove the product. After taking a shower, I noticed my jaw and chin skin were red. The next few days it got worse and I had developed scabs on my jaw and chin on my skin and itched immensely. I bought hydrocortisone cream to deal with the constant itching of my beard and skin. I waited 3 weeks and just used the product 2 nights ago and it burned again. Now the redness, itching and scabs are back. I will no longer use this product. I believe they changed some ingredient in the product.

I’ve been using JFM beard dye for many, many years now. I have had no issue with irritating or burning, pussy skin until recently. I’ve applied the product per instruction without resolve. I use once every 6-7 days hoping to allow my skin to heal before applying again. The itching and pain has become unbearable. I scratch uncontrollable at night with evidence of blood stain spots on pillow cases and sheets. I have used topical ointments and antihistamine medication to assist with the irritation yielding on somewhat satisfaction. I hate the idea of graying and believe in this product for years. But at the expense of ripping my face off. I believe it times to discontinue use. I urge anyone trying this product to stop before it gets started.

Matt
Ive used the product for years with no issue. 2 applications ago, i noticed redness, itching, burning, peeling, and puss oozing. Thought perhaps i left it on too long, so most recent application, i put on lightly and ensured i was under 3 minutes. Shortly after rinsing out, i felt itchy. That turned to a very painful blistered red raised irritation. Its appearant that after several years, something in the product has changed. Will never use again.

Marcus
I used 3 boxes of JFM over several months with no issues. Then yesterday after application to my mustache my lips are burning and hurt, my chin is irritated and itching. I am no longer going to use JFM.

Martin
I use Just For Men and hours later,I started itching and by the morning I had to go to the Emergency due to swelling of my face and a lot of weeping from blisters,I developed a bad rash, this product should be removed from stores.

Bill C
I’ve used this product for years. Then a few months ago I used the Medium Brown mustache and beard product and it bunt the hell out of face. So, I went without it for a while. Then just this past Wed I dyed my beard and mustache again and I am a mess. My whole upper lip and under my nose is burnt, peeling, scabbing and horribly itchy. WTF? Happened to this product? I’m in horrible pain and I look like I have fever blisters all over my top lip. Ouch and yuck.

Chris
Really bad rash and even seemingly permanent scar. Used this product for years but for the last year it’s been really bad. Cortisone cream is the only thing that helps but overuse of this causes other rashes. Looking for safe alternative! Hold JFM accountable for their unsafe ingredients!

Chris
I have been using JFM for twenty years and never ever had a problem until this past summer when I would have itching after use. Since my hair is short, I usually use it twice a month, and have done so like I said for twenty years without any problems. I recently had surgery and have not been able to use the product for a month and of course I went totally gray. I had absolutely no itching since I stopped for the month. I was able to use it a couple nights ago with help because I really hate having gray hair, and now I am itching a lot again and the skin on the right side of my face actually hurts to the touch. I used to tell people how great this product was because it worked so well. I also thought that perhaps the ingredients changed because it not only caused itching and redness, the color does not stay as it did in previous years. I don’t know what I am going to do or what other product I can try because I really do not like having the gray hair and I Hope JFM is reading these comments and can perhaps reevaluate the formula because they are losing long time customers…. I am a 20 year steady customer, but now I am forced to stop using the product because the discomfort is now out of control. I certainly would try to use it again if there is a positive revision in the formula. I never write reviews or comments but after reading all the comments from other users who are experiencing the same reaction I have been experiencing, I felt I needed to also write about my experience.

John
Something is definitely not right! Used this product for 7 years with no issues. Noticed the box and tubes looked a little different on the box i purchased a month ago. First time I used it and 2 days later my beard was all itchy and shin was flaky with scabs. That has never happened before and since it is winter and I was working outside….I figured it had to be that. Well, 2 week later I used it again and bam it happened again? This time it took one day to have the same issues. What was weird is that it got worst for like 5 days and after about 8 days it got better. I stopped using it for a month and my skin was back to normal. Being curious, i said wth lets try this one last time. Stupid mistake. 2 days later the same issue. Something has to be different with the formula!

Roy
My face turned red like I had a sunburn or wind burn or both. I didn’t know what caused it. Then it started peeling. I kept putting skin lotion and Alie vera on my face until that went away. But then I had severe itching on my face especially my beard. My face has been flaking ever since then. I have to keep putting lotion or cream on my face. Didn’t understand what it was. But today, I started wondering if I was having an allergic reaction to the, “Just For Men beard”; so zi got on the internet to see if there had been any allergic reactions reported and I found this site. I was beginning to worry a lot about my face itching so bad and spread down my neck and upper face.

Dan.
My Wife got me to start using the beard Dye 4 years ago. Have never had any problems until 3 weeks ago. thought it was a one time issue. Not so. Used again 4-days ago and same Red Swelling under beard. Same uncontrollable-Itching and flaking skin on Face. My left ear is peeling and OOzing. Lost 3-Nights sleep so far this time caused by the itching and burning. Some higher up at Just For Men must be trying to increase their profit margin by Out-Sourcing this Formula to the Lowest Dirt-Bag lab. on the Planet. No one can make me Believe they have not changed anything…….. That’s Total Beard-Shit!!!!!!! Ready to Sue. Where do i Sign.

I too have been a regular user for 12+yrs,Last app was 24 days ago,17 days ago went to my Dr.s photos were taken of the reaction,Prescribed 2 types of cream to apply for 5 days and finally i have some relief from the oozing, scabbing,Painful blistering,I am actively seeking legal representation to get involved in a class action lawsuit,24 days of this was 23 days to many.I believe they have altered the formula as this has never happened in 12+yrs of using,Also new design on pkg,I notice the white mixing agent is different,Thinner, looser,I think this is where the problem lies.

Chris
Same thing as all others my cheeks are swelling and burning I’m afraid of the end result

Brian
I used this several times with no problems until 4 days ago when I used it at night and my face was burning and liquid was coming from it all night. I was scratching too much unfortunately and now have some scabs I expect to fall off but the bright red rash looking thing under my now short trimmed grey beard looks disgusting, and after a few days of using Hydrocortizone cream and Benadryl cream I don’t think it’s gotten much better. I keep hoping it goes away because this is going to be embarrassing and I am praying it’s not permanent.

Ramel
I also have the same experienced when using this JUST for Men mustache dy products. I have a weeping burn , red bump and rashes when I used this for my mustache

John
Let me join the chorus of similar experiences. Used JFM beard dye for a year with no problems. Then bought new box, thought it was simply new packaging, then the problems started. Red welts under chin and around mouth. Itchy and flaking. Some spots just bright red. Stopped using it. What the hell did they do???

Aaron
I used this product a few times from September of 2019 to now. I don’t know what happened, but my the box I just bought in January burned the hell out of my face. It itches so bad. Never had an issue before even back in December. It must have been an older box or you develop a reaction after a few uses.

Duane
I just Googled “Just For Men” rash, wondering what’s going on…. I’ve used this product in the past and never experienced any type of adverse reaction. I started using it again over past month, and the skin under my beard is a suddenly a mess: chemical, weeping burns, red itchy rash, hard red bumps. WTF? I have absolutely no dermatological or immunological problems. What’s in this shit? The product MUST have different ingredients now. Where is the consumer protection? I’ll never use this product again after being so seriously harmed. We need a class action suit and demand that the product be pulled off the shelves until proven to be consistently safe.

allan
I started using the dye on my beard two days ago I began experiencing red bumps on my chin and neck which would then would leak a clear liquid. This product is fuckin dangerous..It must be pulled from the shelves!

Bret
This is by far the worst product I have ever used. On occasion I have a beard. In the early days of growing a beard my skin itches. I purchased “Just For Men Our Best Ever” Face and Beard Wash”… “Helps to Prevent Beard Itch Unclogs Pores Calms and Moisturises” (sic)… Manufactured by Combe Incorporated, 1101 Westchester Avenue, White Plains NY, 10604 U.S.A., 1-800-431-2610. My skin feels like it is on fire and my face is bright red. So I would say – not true and shame on you!

Brian
Same thing. Used the product for a couple years, no issues. Recently, itching starts a few hours after application and under my beard there are red patches. While they may not have changed their formula, it’s possible their chemical source has changed. Until an attorney files something though and proper discovery is done, all we have is a guessing game. I’m just going to shave my beard off until they fix it.

Clay
I have been using this product for last 3 years and yesterday which was jan 16 2020 not even 5min later my chin started icthing like crazy with clear puss coming out this product needs to be pulled from store shelves asap

Sam
I’m so glad I read this article! I have the same issues with using JFM and I didn’t realize that it was causing Chemical Burns on my lips!! I started getting “burned, charred lips” consistently while using JFM!! I shaved by beard almost completely off and haven’t dyed it for about a week, my charred, burned lips are completely healed after MONTHS of treating them and trying to figure out why they were peeling all the time!!! THIS IS UNREAL THAT THEY SELL A PRODUCT THAT HAS THIS REACTION ON PEOPLE!!!!

Tom
Well, I am grateful that I ran into this website and thread of comments by users of this product. I have been using this product for about two years now, with no issues. Until, suddenly over the course of the last few months. As I type this, my face is itchy and has a rash under the hair follicles of my beard, it has kept me up at night for the last few nights, and the rash has already developed scabbing and is releasing fluid. This product should be pulled from being sold and I will be contacting an attorney on the subject. Unbelievable……..

Elwin
As like the others on here I’ve been using JFM for years with no issues until around last summer. I started getting an itchy burning sensation after a couple of hours of applying JFM. I imagine my face would’ve looked red from all the scratching if I wasn’t for my dark complexion. They’ve said they haven’t changed the formula which I find hard to believe. I haven’t changed the way I’ve applied it so what gives. This product needs to be fixed or pulled of the shelves immediately!

Sean
I used this product about eight times starting in November 2019 and had no problems, Until Jan 6 2020 on my birthday I decided to get rid of the gray on my beard. I followed the directions, left it on for under three minutes and washed it off… Everything went fine until about two hours after I applied it my entire beard aera Turned red And my mouth and chin was covered in blisters…. Burning itchy and on fire. Total chemical burn. I’m beyond furious and this shit better go away. Going to contact a lawyer as soon as possible!!! Just for men ruined my face!!!

Benjamin

Gianni
I started using the dye on my beard two years ago with no problem, In the past month I began experiencing red bumps on my chin and they would leak a clear liquid. I stopped using it immediately hoping it will clear up.

Charles
I bought the sermon about 2 weeks ago at a Walgreens I used it two days ago and woke up with severe burns underneath my beard oozing pus today is day two and it’s worse now it’s around my lips is oozing blood they suck Just For Men should be pulled off all shelves

Ban just for men
low quality garbage product, should be banned before somebody dies.

GARY
Bought Just For Men last week at Walgreen’s to get rid of some gray in my beard. The next day my face was ‘on fire’ hot and my lips swelled up. My face blistered and oozed puss. It’s been about a week now and my skin doesn’t burn as bad but my lips are still tingling, burning and feel very chapped. I’d consider joining a class action against them for pain and suffering. Someone needs to find/post a remedy for the burning and the product ABSOLUTELY should be pulled from the market. Wake up, Walgreen’s!

Gino
I used this product last year and the year before..never had a reaction. This year since July I have noticed how itchy my beard and moustache get..itchy..itchy..swollen lower lip..What is going on with this product !!!!
