Toyota Engine Stall Recall Linked to Contamination From Manufacturing Debris: NHTSA

Toyota Engine Stall Recall Linked to Contamination From Manufacturing Debris NHTSA

The manufacturer has issued a recall affecting certain Toyota Tundra, Lexus LX and Lexus GX vehicles after identifying engine bearing problems linked to debris left behind during production.

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the Toyota Tundra and Lexus recall on November 12, warning that residue can cling to the bearings and cause the engine to run rough, fail to start or stall, increasing the risk of an auto accident

Engine main bearings are smooth metal components that secure the crankshaft within the engine block and allow it to rotate freely, generating power for the vehicle.

These parts are critical to the powertrain, and debris that adheres to the bearings can cause them to fail, leading to a sudden loss of drive power and increasing the risk of an accident or injury while the vehicle is in motion.

While the recall report does not indicate any accidents or injuries related to the issue, Toyota has received at least 303 field reports and 2,604 warranty claims.

The manufacturer first became aware of the current issue in April 2025, after noticing a rise in reports of engine failures in vehicles that had been excluded from a previous recall.

Following an investigation, Toyota found large pieces of debris in vehicles after the prior recall period. As a result, the manufacturer announced the voluntary safety recall on November 12 for certain vehicles, including:

  • 2022–2024 Toyota Tundra models
  • 2022-2024 Lexus LX models
  • 2024 Lexus GX models

Customers will begin receiving notification letters on December 22 outlining the safety risk, with a second letter to follow once a final repair is determined.

Toyota’s recall numbers are 25TB14 and 25TA14, while the Lexus recall numbers are 25LB07 and 25LA07. Customers can contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 or reach the recall representative, Debora Crews, at debora.crews@dot.gov

Owners with any additional questions may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-888-275-9171), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
