Revolution Farms, Meijer and Fresh Express Salad Recalls Issued Over Listeria Contamination Risks

Recalled salads have been linked to a listeria food poisoning outbreak, which may pose a serious risk for vulnerable individuals and pregnant women

A series of salad recalls were announced over the last several days, impacting Fresh Express, Meijer, Publix and Revolutionary Farms brand produce, which may be contaminated with listeria monocytogenes.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning consumers that exposure to the recalled salad products may cause serious and potentially fatal listeria food poisoning, with symptoms potentially appearing between one and four weeks after consuming the produce.

Listeria monocytogenes poses a particularly serious risk for vulnerable individuals, including children, senior adults, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may experience short-term symptoms, including fever, headaches, stiffness, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea from listeria monocytogenes infections, while pregnant women may suffer more severe consequences, including miscarriages and stillbirths.

Revolution Farms Lettuce and Salad Kits Recall

Federal health officials issued a separate Revolution Farms lettuce and salad kits recall on April 5, followed by a recall expansion on April 6, which officials warn have been linked to a multi-state outbreak of listeria monocytogenes infections.

The recalls came after random sample testing conducted by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) yielded a positive result for the infection causing bacterium. After further investigation, the recall was voluntarily expanded to include all Revolution Farms products. Neither the FDA nor the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have yet indicated how many people have been sickened by the listeria food poisoning outbreak.

The recall impacts a variety of different products including Farmer Mixes, Mini Romaine lettuce, Spring Mixes and other lines of popular salad mixes. For a full list of the recalled Revolution Farms salad products, see the recall notices linked above.

Recalled Revolution Farms products were distributed throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin and were sold at SpartanNash stores, Meijer stores, Bridge St. Market, Kingma’s Market, Fresh Thyme Market Grand Rapids, Fresh Thyme Market Kalamazoo, Horrocks Market Grand Rapids, Doorganics, Cherry Capital Foods, Gordon Food Service, Sysco, Van Eerden Foodservice, Vine Line Produce, Luna restaurant, Russ’ Commissary, and Pearson Foods Corporation.

Consumers should immediately dispose of the listeria contaminated products or return them to their original place of purchase for a refund.  They may also contact Revolution Farms, LLC at (616) 965-6802 Monday through Friday from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. for more information or email info@revolutionfarms.com with “Recall” as the subject line.

No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled Meijer salads.

The recall includes premade salads sold in clear plastic containers of various sizes, all sold under the “Fresh from Meijer” label. A full list of the affected products is available in the recall notice linked above. The recalled salads were sold at Meijer stores in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky and Wisconsin.
