Just For Men Lawsuits

MANUFACTURER: Combe Inc.

OVERVIEW: “Just For Men” hair coloring was originally released in 1987, and is advertised as a hair, beard and mustache dye specifically to cover up gray hair for men.

There are a host of products in the line, from beard and mustache coloring kits to hair and side burns and even some that are designed to add a touch of gray to hair.

Over the past few years, concerns have emerged about the growing number of reports involving severe chemical burns and other allergic reactions among “Just for Men” users.

The side effects of Just For Men may include:

  • Allergic reactions
  • Burning of the skin
  • Swelling of the skin
  • Severe itching
  • Blisters and weeping sores
  • Trouble breathing due to throat swelling

“JUST FOR MEN” ALLERGIC REACTIONS: Hundreds of reports have been submitted by men who had used the product for years but suddenly suffered severe chemical burns and swelling of the face. In many cases, the “Just for Men” problems emerge long after the dye was first used.

While some have speculated that the company may have changed the formulation of Just For Men, Combe officials have publicly denied that. Sudden allergic reactions among men may also be linked to changes in body chemistry among users.

“Just For Men” dye contains p-Phenylenediamine, an organic compound that is considered one of the most prevalent allergens in the world.

In May 2009, the medical journal Dermatitis listed it as the tenth most prevalent allergen in patch tests, and it was declared Allergen of the Year by the American Contact Dermatitis Society in 2006.

First and last time ever will I use this nasty so called hair dye. I’m in the midst of a nasty reaction like the rest of the gents here… Stinking redness and weeping discharge on my scalp. 2 dr bills later and a mountain of drugs that do not stop the hurting. I have lost 3 days of work by Dr’s orders. Pull this home of a product off worlwide shelves for good, until they sort out the abhorrent health issues it causes.

I am also like a lot of the guys that have sent in comments about this product Just For Men Mustache and Beard Coloring. First time I used it everything seemed to work just fine. Second time out I noticed a bit of a sensation on my face and a itchy feeling. Thought nothing of this as it went away after a few days. Now this third and last time that I will ever use this product I had a big out break of facial skin rash underneath my beard and along the areas along my neck. This rash burned and the facial pores also weeped a watery liquid from the application I did to myself. Let me tell you it hurts and you do not get much sleep at night. This product is bad and dangerous for the user needs to be taken off the store shelves. Not sure why anyone would want to chance it on themselves to color their beard.

I started using Just For Men Mustache & Beard, Beard Coloring for Gray Hair-Jet black about 15 years ago. I had no issue and recommended the product to my friends all the time, until last year. Something changed with the product. I started having severe itching and after a day or two. I will have blisters underneath my beard. Initially, I thought it must be something else I was reacting to since I’ve used the product for years. Then after experiencing this issue several times after using Just for Men. I knew the issue was from the product, you can also see that the look of the dye paste has changed. I wish the company can go back to the old formula and stop the one that is causing all these issue.

Shane
I have used this product for several years now and love it. It burns a little yet i have had NO problems with it. I use it every time I get a hair cut. I will not get a hair cut unless I have this dye. I usually keep two on hand. If you are allergic to it don’t use it. Stop wanting free money and try something else that does not cause you a reaction. People like you who wants to sue for any and every little thing is ruining it for the rest of us. Get a job and earn your own money. I’m tired of your junk. Get a job.

I used product on my bread and the just for men burned my face pretty bad

Josh
Used this product recently it has burnt my skin face is red under the beard hurting and itching.

I’ve had the same issues with rash and weeping, burning skin. I only used Just For Men about 10 -15 times during 2019 and had to quit using it obviously. Since, I get the same skin issues with redness then blistering, burning, itching, and embarrassing flaking skin all about my face and scalp even though I haven’t used the product since late 2019. I never had issues like this before trying Just For Men. I have only used the beard coloring, never the scalp. This condition happens about twice a month and besides the pain and discomfort, I’m too humiliated to go out in public. Really depressing.

Be very careful in using this product. It appears something has changed in their formula. I had previously used Just For Men Medium Dark Brown beard dye with no issues. More recently, each time I’ve dyed my beard, I’ve noticed increased itching and irritation, as well as chemical burns on my lips. Initially, I thought this was because of increased mask wear for Covid-19, etc., as well as maybe a beard oil I was using but it actually ended up being the JFM product. I would definitely recommend against buying this product.

Matt
I usually have my hair coloured by my hairdresser but with current COVID restrictions I was unable to make an appointment. I thought I’d give JUST FOR MEN hair dye a go and it’s the worst thing I’ve ever done. My scalp, forehead and the back of my neck are inflamed, I have blisters and swelling all over my scalp and I’m in so much pain. GET THIS POISON OFF THE SHELF IMMEDIATELY!!! This stuff is dangerous and I will never use it again.

Ron
Used this product a few days ago and within a half hour of using it I I felt a burning sensation on my face. I discovered a red burn type mark about the size of a dime on my face near my eye. I treated it with Hydrocortisone to soothe the burning irritation for two days. Two days later the mark is still there and quite visible with no indication of improvement.

I’ve read all but the older comments, but what I need to know is if anyone had these severe reactions after having no reaction with the 48 hour allergy test? I did the 48 hr allergy test 5 days ago but didn’t have time so I just started another 48 hour allergy application yesterday. So far no reaction has occurred. This is my 1st time using. I don’t know if I will do this now.

My husband has been using just for men for over 3 years both for his beard and head. First his beard and mustache started to get rashes and blisters he stopped using it of course. Then when he used it on his head his whole scalp swelled, he had rashes and a major headache. My husband is not one to complain about pain so I can only imagine how painful and uncomfortable he is. I can’t believe this hair dye would cause such horrible reactions. They need to take this product off the market as soon as possible.

Started using this product recently at first it seemed ok followed the instructions as stated. My skin started having a stinging burn sensation when I took it off my beard was red. After I noticed some blisters & bumps. Was so painful to comb my beard. I headed about 2 weeks later went to a proper salon asked them if they could do it which they kindly did. My beard was stinging and I immediately took the dye off & washed it with cold water. Realised the chemicals used damaged my skin. Never ever will I buy or recommend this product to anyone. They should be off the shelves for safety reasons.

Chris
I’ve used their product for almost 4years now. I have a beard and for some reason half of my face grows in white/clear hair. (Just for men)tm Always made it all one color. I used it last night. Measured right. I’ve done it hundred times. Now?? My face is killing me. Yellow scans and pussing. Sorry I know it’s gross. Deffin some sort of chemical burn. Hurts to open my mouth. Can’t shave! Dear god no!! Something has changed. I just hope they change it back. I won’t use it again! Good luck all of you!

Esteban
If most of all the comments are just about the same in the horrible things that we have endured by using this product why haven’t the people who are responsible for this not got in trouble yet and are still making a lot of money off of this awful stuff! That they call safe and effective without thorough knowledge of their harmful effects on people! Please let’s just get some real answers

Dre
I’m having the same issues as others. “ My beard is always getting wet with some sort of secretion. I am constantly using napkins to dry it off.“ I used this product years ago with no issue. They must have changed the formula. Never again, never again

Luis J
After applying the area became red and start itching. First time I used I it happens a the same thing but I thought it was the sun because I went to the beach. But I applied again and the whole area turn red immediately and I can feel the burning sensation.

I just started using JFM M-45 beard color last month. First time, my skin became itchy. I stopped using it for couple of weeks and then tired again yesterday. My face turned completely red, it is burning and itching. My beard is always getting wet with some sort of secretion. I am constantly using napkins to dry it off. I need to see the doctor immediately. I will never use this product again. This product should be removed from the store-shelves immediately.

Dan
First time with a beard. First time dying…… ALL OF THE ABOVE comments ARE CORRECT & true. My husband is expecting ALL OF THE ABOVE!!! Including throat closure, and he canNot work. He had been out of work for a week now because of this product. How is this allowed in stores ???? Allowed to be sold???

Amit
used it for 3 months with no problem. I use it once a week to color my beard. But I used it yesterday and now I have severe itching that won’t go away. It looks like they messed up their current batch. Something is not right. I will not use this product again.

Tanner
First time I used just for men beard was in 2012, it seemed to work great and made my much younger beard look fuller. Since I have used the product to turn my natural red beard into brown to match my hair color. It’s always worked well and lasted well thru washes. Bought some the other week as my beard was getting red again, applied it as directed then washed off in the shower. Beard looked great! I applied some beard oil later that night. Woke up beard itchy as all get out when scratched a puss would ooze out. I figured the masks we were wearing at work was doing it. 2-3 weeks later I just did it again last night! Never ever again will I do it again! Nothing is worth this aggravation and irritation! 12 hours after the use redness itchy bumps that ooze occurs. What can I do to help get it over with!

Kevin
Used just for men for years. Used it yesterday. Rash and blisters weeping all over my neck and face. Cold sore blisters on my nose today. I can not hardly stand it. Scabby all over my head. Throat swollen. Will never use it again if I can get over this! It’s awful!

Michael
I’m 65 used the product for my beard years ago . It was very good. it was a two part application you mixed it a little plastic tray. Regardless of what they are saying the formula has been changed and I’ve had sever issues with the new version. I recently tried the hair dye. First night looking good next day my head itched like hell. I’ve had headaches for 4 days and counting. I’m taking Tylenol now twice a-day. I can no longer wear a cap for any length of time. This product is not safe and should be removed from the market.

I started using Just for Men 4 years ago with no issues. Suddenly, starting in March of this year, my skin itched severely after using it and the area around my mustache and goatee got puffy. I thought I had bought a bad batch so I discarded it and went to Walmart and bought another package. Upon the next use, my skin reacted with violent itching and burning. I am confused as to why suddenly these reactions started happening. Have they changed the formula or something???

I used JFM a few days ago on my Beard. The next day I started feeling my skin on my chin seem to get tight and itchy. The next morning the itching became severe, I looked in the mirror and my chin was blistering and very swollen , blisters started breaking and discharging later in the day. I followed the product instructions but only left the product on for less than four minutes. Days later my chin is still swollen and looks disfigured. I work with the public and can’t work in this disfigured condition. Terrible product, it should be considered criminal for a company to continue to have this product on store shelves!

I am a 50 year old white male. Like many others posting here I too have been using JFM for many years – somewhere upwards of 10 years and without issue and with great results. Only recently in the last six months did I begin to endure redness, and unbearable itch. In addition, it appeared that despite the usual application process, the colour would either not take or simply fade out the next day. I can understand that allergies can develop over time (I’m not yet allergic to any thing else to date), but I too question if the fine people at JFM did change their composition of the formula. Very odd. I will discontinue the use of this product.

Brandon
Like many others, I’ve been using this product for years. A couple weeks ago I noticed after using insane redness, blisters, itching that kept me up all night. It’s been weeks now and the redness, raised bumps have gone down to a pink rash. Not sure if it will ever heal at this point. Absolute insanity that this can go on.

Christopher
I have used jfm for a year or so but the last application it started to burn my skin and within hours i had orange pus ozzing from my chin and neck. The itching and pain was unbearable. 6 weeks later ive trimmed my beard right down due to the itchiness and soreness, this product has left me with a terrible red rash and peeled skin which looks awful and i am sure will not heal now. This product has changed ingredients surely , will never use again. Its wrecked my skin.

Sean
I looked up chemical burns from JFM hair dye and saw this post. I too used this product over a year ago and experienced a chemical burn from hell on my right lower chin. I used it a lot in past and one day when applied by the instructions it started to burn my skin and I washed it off quickly. My chin developed fluid under the skin and it became infected. It broke my skin and puss with blood kept poring out into my goatee. The fluid dried into my hair and became hard so I couldn’t even shave to properly care for the wound. It was painful and disgusting and embarrassing. Nonetheless, eventually it healed so I thought. Never used the product again. The other day I itched my lower right chin where the problem was and fluid built up again causing leakage in same location. Crazy!

Marc
First lot I used was fine second time of buying product this time has burned and blistered face and is weeping never use again don’t use people hope face heels ok

Gregory
I have used JFM Beard color for years. I put it on for 4 minutes as I have always done on June 12th. I showered to wash it out, again as always. I am red, swelling, blisters and severe itching. My wife took pictures. Something is very wrong with this product now.

Dean
AHHHH! My face is melting!! I have used the JFM medium brown for a few years. In the past there have been times my skin became itchy. I don’t know what’s going on now. Haven’t used it for a few months, did so twice in 10 days – now my face is burning, itchy and red. Just noticed bumps and wetness under my beard. It’s oozing! WTF!!

Mark
I’ve used this in the past with no problems. I’m on day three now of crazy itching. Cortisone doesn’t help Something is wrong with this product.

Brian
If you have herpes don’t use this product! Much higher risk of massive blisters. Be careful use on elbow first for test to see if breakout occurs.

Jerry
I used it,noticed itching, bumps which leaked puss,I thought I had left it on too long,so I tried it again about a month later and noticed it burned while I was applying. Once I removed the product, the itching continues

Andrew
Iv had all of the same symptoms plus my whole face has swollen up. It’s the third day since i applied it. This is f&$@ unacceptable! How can this shit that damages you actually be for sale on the market.. beard skin weeping, crusty sores, tight painful skin, the itching kept we awake all night. I’m off to the local hospital to seek treatment. Please guys, if you’ve experienced this, please also post what treatment worked properly for others about to go through this nightmare. This shit should be withdrawn off the market… period!

Khaled
I have been using JFM for the past 15 years. Never had issue before with any irritation. Since last year I developed issue with by lips, itchy mustache and beard. I for the first couple time I thought the lips swelling and blistering was from some sort of allergy related to food, however since the Corona virus outbreak and staying home mostly, I decided no need to color my beard, sideburns or mustache, however 3 days ago I applied JFM on my mustache, beard and sideburns boy o boy a day after my lips started to feel funny, yesterday and today I have swollen upper lip with blisters. My beard is itching uncontrollably stopped. Since I have using it since 2006 with no issue for the past year I now understand the repeated cause of itchy beard and swollen lip has been due to JFM. Now that I know for sure the allergic reaction is JFM I will stop using the product. I had 4 or 5 times in the past 1 year suffered from same issue. Only when I stopped using it for 2 months March and April 2020 during the stay home and reused again 3 days ago got swollen lip and itchy beard.

Landon
I have used this product for 20 years. Last week I purchased both the hair color and beard color. It was 1 day later that I developed large bumps, and rash at the base of my neck and sides of my head, and the itching was outrageous. My beard began itching, and small bumps as well. My throat swelled a bit, and I felt like I had to belch all time. It felt like I had indigestion. Has any one else had these symptoms including the feeling of indigestion, belching, etc.? Thanks, Landon

Zac
I have only been using JFM for about two or three months. I’ve had no issues – until I used it yesterday. I am now experiencing extreme itching. I suspected it may have been connected to the dye, so I googled and found the information listed here. I really hope this issue is resolved, as I thoroughly enjoy the product and the way it makes my beard look. If there has indeed been a change to the formula, please revisit to prevent allergic reactions.

Martin
Something’s changed. I was using this product and it was fine, then started on a new batch a few weeks back and all of a sudden I’m getting severe itch, rash, etc. Shaved off my beard and mustache with a clippers and the itching stopped pretty much right away. So many people here are saying the same thing – that they had used the product without issue, sometimes for years, and then something changed recently.

sam
used for 2 years and now holy hell… same as others.. they changed something and i cants stop itching..i guess its time to shave the beard… trash company

TDHS
Applied to my beard for 4 mins and within 12 hours has raised blisters all over the area. have taken antihistamines and can only hope there is no scarring.

Joe
Use this product for a couple of years without any problems. Then use this product recently and all of a sudden it’s like they changed the formula. Immediately started experiencing irritation the very next day I have had redness swollen anus and my cheeks and face in beard area down to my neck. Directly related 2 Just For Men. I will not use this product ever again it’s sad. Whatever formula they changed definitely not good 4 continue use. I don’t recommend you use this product anymore.

Chad
I used the medium brown dye on my beard about 3 years ago every 2 weeks for about 6 months with no issues. I decided to start using it again last week. Left it on for 5 minutes. The next day it was itching very bad. It’s been about 4 days now. The itching seems to be worse now. I’ve noticed that there are tiny blisters all under my bread and hurts pretty bad. They must have changed something in it because I didn’t have this issue when I used it 3 years ago. I will never use this product again. It is not worth the pain.

Mark
I started using JFM about a week ago on my beard and unfortunately I tried to touch up my edges on my hair line. What a mistake. I read all the side effects on line and I have every one of them. Weeping pus wound, itching you name it. Never felt uglier in my life and I have a presentation tomorrow that I have to show my face on Microsoft teams. I can’t believe how painful this is. Threw the two new boxes in the garbage as I bought 3…

Matt
I have used Jfm for maybe 5 years and over the past few months my beard would itch badly after using for a couple days and more recently my face gets extremely red and burns badly not right after using but now and then after using. Even after that subsides the skin on my temple are is dry and red. Once I figured out it was jfm I stopped using it but yesterday it happened again. I wore a ball cap I haven’t worn in awhile and think it was residue from jfm bc I use it up my sideburns to my hair at my temples. Crazy.

Todd
Same story here. Was using this product just fine for a few weeks. JFM dark brown beard color. Last week I was visiting in Florida and bought another package. Applied it as normal but within a few minutes felt very uncomfortable so washed it out. Woke up Iin the night in severe pain. Felt like hot pins in my face. Showered again and washed my beard twice. The next day I’m still in pain and notice red dots and my lips are swollen and chapped. Last night I used clippers and my razor to get rid of my beard (agonizing through it). Feeling a little better today but my face is red, sore and extremely sensitive to touch.

Patrick
I am a 58 year old black man, who has just started using JFM, I have used it twice in 8 weeks. The first application left me with some mild itchiness. However I used it again yesterday 29.4.20,and straight away I felt am irritation and extreme tightness of the skin on my face. Would up this morning and my face is swollen, deformed with oozing spots. Not sure what to use to ease the pain and stop the irritation. Will never use again it is dangerous.

John
