OVERVIEW: “Just For Men” hair coloring was originally released in 1987, and is advertised as a hair, beard and mustache dye specifically to cover up gray hair for men.

There are a host of products in the line, from beard and mustache coloring kits to hair and side burns and even some that are designed to add a touch of gray to hair.

Over the past few years, concerns have emerged about the growing number of reports involving severe chemical burns and other allergic reactions among “Just for Men” users.

The side effects of Just For Men may include:

  • Allergic reactions
  • Burning of the skin
  • Swelling of the skin
  • Severe itching
  • Blisters and weeping sores
  • Trouble breathing due to throat swelling

“JUST FOR MEN” ALLERGIC REACTIONS: Hundreds of reports have been submitted by men who had used the product for years but suddenly suffered severe chemical burns and swelling of the face. In many cases, the “Just for Men” problems emerge long after the dye was first used.

While some have speculated that the company may have changed the formulation of Just For Men, Combe officials have publicly denied that. Sudden allergic reactions among men may also be linked to changes in body chemistry among users.

“Just For Men” dye contains p-Phenylenediamine, an organic compound that is considered one of the most prevalent allergens in the world.

In May 2009, the medical journal Dermatitis listed it as the tenth most prevalent allergen in patch tests, and it was declared Allergen of the Year by the American Contact Dermatitis Society in 2006.

Definitely burns your skin and got scabs under my beard very itchy for a week . Putting warm water on beard seems to stop discomfort for short while

I used JFM medium brown yesterday on my mustache and chin and now have severe itching and burning. My face is blistered where I applied the product and oozing.

I decided to try JFM medium brown to try and cover up some of the grey in my beard. First I tried a small amount on my sideburn to see if it was going to irritate my skin. I didn’t feel any side effects, so I decided to try it on my entire beard the next day. I put it on in the early evening and left it in for only two or three minutes before washing it out. Within an hour, all of my skin below the beard was itching, burning, and beginning to swell. The amount of pain and discomfort was ridiculous and sleeping that night just wasn’t going to happen. It was around 2:00am when I couldn’t take it any longer and I decided to shave off the beard. This was when I was able to see just what was happening to my face. Severe swelling and bumps on my neck and face. Blisters on my neck and face. Open sores dripping clear liquid on both my neck and face. My upper lip was swollen as well. I look like I have been in a car wreck. I wish that I would have read the JFM reviews before trying this product. After reading the reviews and seeing how many men have been severely burned by this product, I never would have put this product on my skin.

Had to shave my beard off to treat itching burning skin. Went to Dr. and got some antihistamines which knocks me out, so I quit them and teated with creams and such. I still have some itching burning on my face after 5 weeks. It was bad enough that I couldn’t sleep for several nights and had apparently showered some of the dye to a personal spot. Itchy as heck for awhile but has gone away thankfully.

Have used jfm beer diet for years with no issues. The last time I used it it made a severe rash underneath my beard and mustache was very itchy and painful for about a week. Thinking it was just a fluke I tried it again several months later and my face swelled up like a balloon and my skin secreted a clear type of fluid very itchy and extremely painful had to call off work the next day because of it. I couldn’t sleep and fluid came out of my face for approximately a week.Now I have permanent bumps underneath my sideburns and chin that itch and if I scratch them too much they secrete the same fluid! I can’t believe they can sell this stuff!

I am in Canada and my chin, cheeks and lips are completely burned and oozing. I am scratching and very uncomfortable in lots of pain. Please someone help me.

I’ve used just for men real black and jet black for 10 years and I never had any problems with until recently. The last 2 months when I apply the product to my beard its irritates my skin. I would normally leave it on for 2 minutes but the last 2 months I cant. As soon as i apply the just for me on my mustache I can feel it burning my skin so I will wash it out after 1 min. But it will burn itch and irritate me for 2 to 3 days. I’m not going to use it anymore. Unless they change the product. For 10 years I had no problems with the product. But now its different I can tell.

I’ve used Just for Men medium brown a few times in the past with no I’ll effects. For some reason the latest batch is causing itching and a rash. I initially thought I may have mixed it wrong but a recent touch up brought the itchy rash back. Super lame if they changed the product without warning, into the trash it goes.

I didn’t know the formula had changed. I noticed it a couple months back when I use this (Beard and Moustache) it blisters my lips.

I have been using JFM medium-brown on and off for just over three years. July 13th I applied the new version of it that has biotin, aloe and coconut oil and now have burning, scabbing and oozing of the cheek and chin areas. It is really bad at night when you are trying to sleep for some reason and it feels the worst like chemicals are being administered to my face. Also during this time is when my face is the worst for it weeping. I just got back from Afghanistan and I have a large beard and don’t know what my skin looks like underneath it all after using this product, but I’m worried now. I got in bed right around 23:00 and it’s 02:01 as I’m writing this just for reference to the burning pain and the uncomfortableness of it all.

Same for me! Contstant burning and itching sensations and also pus! Such a shame as there is nothing else really on the market 🙁 Very dangerous product!

I have used this product before and never had any problems. I recently used product and holy hell my face got red with blisters and swelling. It oozed piss for a week and very painful. Missed work because was embarrassed from the dripping from my chin. I would advise not to use this dye anymore. This is bullshit and this product should not be on the market any longer and this company should be held accountable for all these victims.

I have used JFM for over a year mainly on my beard without any problem. The last box of Jet Black I purchased definitely is a new formula shortly after using the product and it was a lite application my skin started to develop pussy oozing blister that I are sore and ichy. I never had this issue with the product before something has definitely changed with the formula and the changes aren’t good!

I have been using JFM beard coloring every 4-6 weeks for at least a decade now. But recently a few hours after using it I developed a horrible itching rash under my beard that devolved into a painful oozing mess. It has taken days to heal up. I assumed it was just something personal going on with me, until I did a web search and found out that hundreds of men have suffered these exact same symptoms. What the hell is going on?

I thought I was the only one who has a reaction to the hair dye I have pus coming out of my beard for three days now. I’ll never use this product again the pain is unbearable I hope this company goes out of business

I’ve used JFM beard and mustache dye for several years. The last two medium brown packages I bought and used caused severe itching to my chin, upper lip/mustache area, redness and swelling of my lips. A clear pus began oozing from the affected site and I could hardly sleep. This stuff had to have changed as it never used to cause this type of reaction. I won’t be using this ever again and am thinking about legal recourse based on the number of similar complaints and experiences I’ve read about with no action being taken by JFM.

I have been using this product for a few months but the last time I used it over the weekend I had a severe reaction. My skin blistered and fluid was leaking out of my face all day. I was supposed be having a great experience at Disneyland meeting my girlfriends parents for the first time and it ended up being a miserable experience due to the extreme reaction the product caused. How can this be allowed to be on the market at all.

100% Agree with same all above comments: Nasty New Reaction! Purchased 40 from Wal-Mart in NoCal on June 10th — Used as before which had only a very minor irritation so vanity won out BUT just like these post and I had to share this last patch was Poison to my skin. Totally painful experience with all side effects as all experienced, redness, itching, severe burning and blistering, bleeding. I am all in on telling the world to get that stuff off the shelves ASAP. This was worse than a face full of poison oak. Why with so many exact same reactions with men with no reason to complain saying the same thing is this allowed by the FDA. Pure poison!!!

Exactly the same as the other comments. I felt the symptoms beginning last year after decades of using the product with no side effects. I foolishly tried it again a few days ago hoping it would be different, but it’s just as bad. They obviously changed the product and it must be removed from every store and online. Absolutely terrible.

I purchased and used JFM for the first time yesterday, and today I woke up to chemical burns on the sides of my face and a spot of liquid pus right below my nose. Very dry skin and very uncomfortable, hopefully goes away soon.

Same for me, Ive used many times but the last box has left me with severe burning sensation around my mouth and face. Constant puss, Im supposed to go back to the office today but I cannot due to this. I hope it clears up soon, this should be pulled off the shelf immediately.

Holy crap.. reading all this.. same same same. My face had severe sores and itching.. all around my sideburns, chin.. it’s not gone away yet and hard to tell if it’s getting better. I’ve used for about 6 months and all has been fine except about 2 weeks ago I did nothing different and had the itching and burning everyone’s talking about. What the hell? This is nuts.

UK version was changed a few months ago – smelled more pleasant BUT I now have weeping sores on both lips.I have eliminated all other causes for this,and after discovering all of these comments,now realise it MUST be caused by the dye.

I have been using JFM for about 5 years. I’m on the auto order every month but I am going to cancel immediately. The last few months I have had severe itching and recently what I thought were pimples are what I believe to be chemical burns. They are opens sores that are very painful. Have had to use triple antibiotic topical ointment with pain reliever because they burn sio bad and I don’t want them to get further infected. Do not get this product. I’m amazed with all of the testimonials and cases that it’s even allowed to be sold.

Exactly the same as all theses comments, it’s been 2 weeks and my neck and face is burning, it’s embarrassing as people are commenting on it, no improvement with cream and going to the hospital tomorrow

I’ve been using for years without problems. Recently I’ve gotten what I thought was a cold sore that doesn’t go away. It’s not a cold sore. I know how to get rid of them quickly. This is a festering wound that won’t heal. I’ve tried cold sore products that made it worse. Vaseline doesn’t bother it but it’s not healing it either… What to do!?!

I use JFM for 2 years was ok until this month I have a dark spot on the lower part of my mouth it feels very itchy and the dark spot has not cleared even after I stopped using the product for 1 week.!!

I have used JFM about a year last 2 times I’ve used it it’s burnt so so badly AFTER I applied and washed it off … like a day or two after .. I actually convinced myself it wasn’t the dye as it was a few days since I applied it but after looking it up my story is exactly like all these here ! Weeping skin , drying crust scabs , red rashes , very sore very itchy swollen face burnt lips it’s absolutely so painful ! Never ever again after a year of using it ?! What a shame x

My God! Pull this from the shelves immediately! My third or fourth purchase and this latest batch is down right dangerous! My symptoms include all as listed above, heading down to Walgreens where I bought to talk to pharmacist there, this is a horrible experience.

I’ve used this product for the past year no problems. Then I bought the brown and I used it as directions say and it literally itches so bad and I couldn’t find any relief. It gave me oozing sores of clear yellow fluid coming out for days. I couldn’t shave because the sores were so unsightly. I used it the night before a date and I had to leave and tell her I was having an allergic reaction. It was seeping out all over in my beard while I was trying to talk to her. My face was completely red. The pain was unbearable. I almost wet to the hospital. I ended up taking some leftover prednisone and using hydrocortisone. It’s taken almost 2 weeks to feel no itch. And still dealing with the scabs. I would like to have a law suit. This is not a safe product. This literally was one of the more painful experiences I’ve had and I have a very high pain tolerance. It literally was burning my skin.

I’ve used JFM M&B occasionally for nearly a couple years now with no issues. However this last box of M-45 dark brown caused acute chapping/ peeling and cracking of my lips. My face severely itched and constantly was a problem. Don’t buy it, if you have bought it, don’t use it! (This box has the creamier formula with Biotin,Aloe and coconut oil.)

I’ve used JFM in the past and didn’t have an issue. But I used it for my beard about 3 weeks ago and I still have bumps and pus coming out. This is terrible my skin itches that sometimes I can’t sleep. Shaving my face sucks because I these bumps that haven’t gone away.

I used this product a few days ago and it fried my face. Extreme burning, redness and itching under my beard. This garbage is extremely dangerous. I’d like to find the asshole who green lighted this crap for public use and shove the rest of this trash down his throat. Considering suing.

Just like everyone else here I’ve used jfm for about alway 3+ months with no problems. Then I bought this last box. Dark Brown (45) it burning and itching like crazy with clear yellowish liquid oozing. It’s been 2 days now and no signs of clearing up. the sores are so bad and it hurts like hell to touch it let alone shave it.

For years I have used jfm with no problems. This last box I bought yesterday, and used it. That evening my chin began to swell, leaking pus, irritating, scaling, and a horrible itch, and yes it kept me from sleeping, it has been over 24 hrs and is still swollen and oozing. Very uncomfortable and aggravating especially when you have a business meeting. Found this sight searching for some kind of treatment and relief and stop the oozing and swelling

Like so many others here, I have been using jfm for several years with no issues. Then suddenly with this most recent box I have experienced the same burning, itching, and blisters on two different occasions. The first time I went out to my farm the day after applying it and came home with the same symptoms described above. Since I was out in the country and clearing a lot of brush I just figured it was poison ivy. It took almost 3 weeks to fully clear up. Not knowing the jfm color was the culprit, I applied more yesterday and today I am having the same burning, itching, and blisters all over the treated areas of my face. You can’t tell me they didn’t change the formula. There are way too many people experiencing this all of a sudden for it to be the human body changing over time

Have used in the past with minor irritation; had a special event coming up and wife talked me into putting some on my short, well groomed beard. Immediate swelling and huge welts all around my mouth and neck. After TWO WEEKS this has spread to my upper chest and is almost unbearable and the blisters and swelling/burning is worse with every night. Have not slept in weeks and cannot think of anything but the burning from these blisters. This company needs to be shut down.
