Just For Men Lawsuits

MANUFACTURER: Combe Inc.

OVERVIEW: “Just For Men” hair coloring was originally released in 1987, and is advertised as a hair, beard and mustache dye specifically to cover up gray hair for men.

There are a host of products in the line, from beard and mustache coloring kits to hair and side burns and even some that are designed to add a touch of gray to hair.

Over the past few years, concerns have emerged about the growing number of reports involving severe chemical burns and other allergic reactions among “Just for Men” users.

The side effects of Just For Men may include:

  • Allergic reactions
  • Burning of the skin
  • Swelling of the skin
  • Severe itching
  • Blisters and weeping sores
  • Trouble breathing due to throat swelling

“JUST FOR MEN” ALLERGIC REACTIONS: Hundreds of reports have been submitted by men who had used the product for years but suddenly suffered severe chemical burns and swelling of the face. In many cases, the “Just for Men” problems emerge long after the dye was first used.

While some have speculated that the company may have changed the formulation of Just For Men, Combe officials have publicly denied that. Sudden allergic reactions among men may also be linked to changes in body chemistry among users.

“Just For Men” dye contains p-Phenylenediamine, an organic compound that is considered one of the most prevalent allergens in the world.

In May 2009, the medical journal Dermatitis listed it as the tenth most prevalent allergen in patch tests, and it was declared Allergen of the Year by the American Contact Dermatitis Society in 2006.

I am in total shock. Each one of these comments could’ve been written by me. I suspected the dye but was unsure because the ER doctor gave me guesses and antibiotics. I’ve got the clear yellowish orange liquid oozing from my chin and beard line. My chest and neck are red, itchy and swollen. My lips are singing and look like a herpes break out (I don’t have herpes), and my neck is so swollen i have to lean my head backwards to breathe. I am more afraid that I’m going to be suffocated to death than I am about anything else. This is HORRIBLE!

I have been using JFM since 2010 3x a week. and never had issues other then it dying the skin a few times from leaving it to long. I use the real black. Last year here in Canada I noticed they changed the design of the box, along with the new design. I noticed the product itself smells different almost like a cologne. On top of that I noticed that I that it doesn’t dye the hair as well and can’t get an even dye all around. Curious why… I did notice tonight when I used it that it dyed my skin within seconds, literally black. Haven’t noticed any allergic reaction yet tho. I used to apply it to my beard and jump in the shower immediately only leaving it on for 2-3mins to avoid dying my skins and it would turn the hair a nice black all around even. Now it seems weaker…? They definitely changed something in the formula….

Am from Australia and I have used just for men Beard brown (35 box) about 10 times during November & December last year with no problems at all. Then on Christmas Eve I used it and omg I woke up in the middle of the night itching my face non stop and in the morning woke up and noticed Yellow strains on my pillow. Then Christmas Day I was in so much pain and so embarrassed as I could barely eat as my face was swollen, dry and with noticeable scabs. I thought maybe it was from stress in the lead up to Christmas and my skin had been really dry. So today I dyed my beard again and now am lying in bed with the same problems again. That’s it am never touching that again!

Didn’t have an issue before with this product till this past year. Bought the medium brown beard product and once applied ,I immediately began feeling my beard itch. Blistering soon appeared with yellow liquid ooze coming out of my chin. Definitely symptoms of some sort of allergic reaction. Concerned consumer….

Bryan
Never had a issue with this product and been using it for a year. I’m in the UK and just bought another box and wow! My face is burning! And itching like crazy! What the hell have they done to it?

Eric
I’ve used the product many times in the past. I applied the beard product on jan. 2 and started to swell my face with massive burning. I had to shave my beard and have sores with clear liquid coming out and extreme pain.

Elliot
OMG! I’m in horrible pain. I applied the JFM January 2 2021 and started feeling sick and irritated by 6 pm on the 3rd. Unable to have anything touch my face as the swelling was coming on so rapidly. No sleep and horrible pain, swelling and itching. I’m uninsured, and can’t go to see a doctor. I’ll go see a pharmacist for over the counter relief. No possible way I can go to work in this condition. Reading previous posts I honestly scared as to how long this can last and what kind of after affects I may suffer.

Dave
I’ve used Just For Men many times in the past. Most of the time, there are no issues, but this most recent time, despite following all the directions including the skin test, I experienced, burning, itching, clear liquids, redness, etc for 5 days and nights running. I tried doing extra rinses, extra washes, cold facecloths – nothing seemed to improve things except time. Definitely the last time I will use the product. Left over and unused are going in the trash. (Medium brown beard and light brown hair)

My friends told me that it was okay to dye their eyebrows with this beard dye, so I was excited to try it out myself. It all worked for my friends but when I used it I got severe itching, redness, and bumps/ liquid oozing out of my skin. I tried applying aloe and aquaphor to them but it didn’t really work. I woke up the next morning and my eye was very swollen. The ooze that came out made my eyebrows extremely hard and every time I tried to clean it off it would pull off my eyebrow hairs. Now I have lots of gaps on my eyebrows and it is still very red and swollen.

I have been using JFM Beard Coloring for at least a decade, but in the past 6 to 8 months I have been having progressively worse problems with it. Each time I use it now seems to burn my face more.I thought it was just me, but after reading all the other comments here, I see that it is not just me. I am going to have to try to find a replacement product but it seems they have a monopoly on beard color.

Rodney
This was my second time using it. I thought the first time was just because of a mask – this time clear liquid oozing and intense burning and itching. It’s been 3 days and I can’t get relief.

Steve
I have used the medium brown color for my beard that you comb in many times in the past with no problems. I recently 12/23/20 used the same color but in a new gel (per packaging) and woke up the next morning with a blister the size of my thumb on my upper lip and my entire face burning and itchy with noticeable weld and blisters that are leaking puss and scabbing up. It has been a week now and the blister on my lip has gone down but I have tingling and no feeling in lip. Face and sideburns are still burning, blistered and oozing puss. When will this end? What should I do to treat this? Any suggestions?

James
I have experienced all the above except hives. This stuff is simply toxic. It’s been weeks and my upper lip is still swollen. I hope and pray my lip returns to normal. Going to dermatologist.

Antonius
I used just for mean for the first time last week and face was itching, bleeding, burning and some clear liquid was coming out. My face is burnt around my jaw line and still itches.

Rob
Have used jfm beard and mustache dye for about 3 years. Never a big problem until this last box purchased. Minor itching once in awhile. Medium brown. But with this recent box my face is red, swollen, rashes, itching like crazy. Lips are swollen and tingling. Can’t sleep at night. Too much itching. Neck below beard line is also red, swollen, and rashed. I hope this goes away soon or I’m going to lose my mind.

Frank
Hi guys, question did anyone stop using the product and see any results weeks after with rash and everything else going away? I applied a coat 7 days ago and checking if you seen results after you stopped using the product. Thanks and good luck

Katherine
My husband uses product about 6 months ago and now his face is itchy all the time and his beard is breaking off and he doesn’t know what to do about

Han
I used to have a 3 inch long beard till today and I usually colored it with just for men since last 4 months. Today somehow I decided to shave it off and I am in a horror right now. My face is so bloated, I just hope it is not permanently disfigured. I am so disappointed in myself for deciding to go for this product.

John

I used this product a couple of times. It seems the batch consistency is poor. Using it yesterday, (medium brown), my face is pretty badly burned and I had to cut all of my beard off to treat it. I followed the timing instructions to the second. But both sides of my face are burned and, to a lesser extent, my jawline and neck. I’ve tried treating it with typical burn creams with mixed results. Had to take some aspirin to sleep.

John
I use it every 3 weeks on my beard, never had a issue, some of these “reviews” are clearly fabricated.

Jerry
Used product for around 6 months, then kne time I used it it felt like somebody was burning my face off. Been going on a week now and I am miserable from it.

Robert
I always used real black jfm And never had any issues until the last year. I apply it and my eyes become beet red and get welts on my scalp and face. I used it last week and kept it on longer and I cannot even describe my skin now and constant itch. I hope my skin clears up and I will never use this product again. I knew what the ramifications of using it were but just applied and removed fast. Again, I think they changed formula about a year ago because I never had problems prior than a year. I am not blaming anybody but my own stupidity for using it again.

Sheldon
I recently used Just For Men hair colour last week, this product absolutely burns the skin off wherever it comes in contact face/scalp. Major puss oozing for days down my face while new skin tries to regrow. I’m shocked how we can even still buy Just For Men products. Constant itching from new scalp skin re-growth is almost over & I’ve certainly learned my lesson never to buy Just For Men products ever again. Thanks Sheldon Smith

This has to be the worse product on tbe market ,my husband used it amd less than 24 hours the same problem these men are experiencing he is definitely experiencing.Blisters and weeping sores ,burning and swelling and so much discomfort this is horrible

Derek
I have been using Just for men for like over 8 years and within the last few months i have been experiencing some serious itching . I woke up one morning after using it and all within my beard and sideburns was red inflamed and ithing fot days so i decided to stop using it for a bit to see if this could be the problem and once i stop all the issues were gone. Today i used the M 45 bc i couldn’t get the M47 i usually purchased at Wal-Mart and damn all over my chin neck and around my mouth is burning, swollen, oozing liquid and itching like crazy. Im of the opinion that something in this product has changed. For the pass 2 months i have also been having issues with my lips loosing the pigment and are pink now and tender . Even after seeing the dermatologist nothing is working for the pigment issue. Im now of the opinion that even this may be linked to this product. Something has definitely changed so all users need to be aware. Im going back to the dermatologist and try to get this issue solve and hope that i haven’t developed some form of cancer from this product. As i write this i am creamed down in hydrocortisone cream and lip balm and on benadryl tablets and still itching. Damn this product

David
I used this product for maybe the 4th time yesterday . Followed the instructions carefully . Only applied for 4 minutes from the first area of application . Washed throughly in the shower . First burning , then itching . Scratched the beard areas and lots of clear fluid coming out of my skin . I assume there are blisters below the beard. It’s so uncomfortable I can’t sleep

David
I have used this product a few times. I just bought a new box as mine ran out. Dyed my beard on the Thursday and it was burning and itchy like crazy. By Saturday my entire face was burning and oozing sticky liquid and blistering. I swear if I am left with scars I will sue. This product is dangerous and should not be on the market. I did all the pre tests as per instructions. I don’t know what to do to make this burn/pain go away.

George
So I’ve used Just for men several years ago to color my beard and it worked great. Maybe just a slit irritation but no big deal. Fast forward to now. I decided to grow a beard again and of course needed to die my gray hairs away. I used it yesterday and a few hours later my skin turned red and the itching began. Terrible itching to the point I almost shaved. I went to bed and this morning the itching and burning persists. I really hope it abates soon. Im returning this product. It’s not worth the pain and aggravation. Ill try something different. On top of all this it did not work near as well as the old stuff. Wish I found this site before trying it. Ugh

Leonard
I really believe they changed the ingredients in the product I use to use it all the time and around 2013 or 2014 I started getting swellings, sores and my lips were not the same they burn and swell and itch I did a test myself just to see and sure enough it only happens when I use jfm take it off the shelf

Leonard
Recently used the product it leaves marks and my lips are not the same they burn itch and swell badly take this stuff off the shelves

Clinton
Used beard dye a few weeks ago and had itching, redness, and after a few days, peeling of skin like dry flakes dropping off when combing beard. Used again last night and my chin/cheeks are red and itching like crazy. Feels like it’s on fire. Never again will I use this product.

James
A couple of years back, I used Just For Men Medium Dark Brown on my hair without issue. It seems the ingredients have changed as my scalp, forehead and the back of my neck are seriously inflamed, I have blisters and swelling all over my scalp, which is seeping a sticky yellow liquid, the type your body produces when trying to form a scab. After two restless nights sleep I’m in so much discomfort due to the chemical burns caused by the Just For Men Dark Brown, so desperate for some soothing relief I plan to run the clippers over my whole head to access the scalp with some medicated cream. With a full head of hair this is certainly not the look I wanted to sport for a week ahead of meetings. To echo what other have said get this hazard of the shelves!!!

Christopher
The allergy test is not a representation of what this poison will potentially do to you. I have burning, dry skin, clear puss oozing non-stop. Pretty sure it is scarring. You can attach my name to any class action suit. My chin feels like a piece of 220 grit sandpaper. Just for men? Just for nobody!

Nicolas
I used this product one time shortly before Halloween of 2020, and 4 days later my face has become disfigured with scars from multiple puss weeping wounds that seem to coagulate the dried up facial excretion into yellow scabs that remain dried to the wounds. As they pebbled up I would scratch them off due to the emense itching and discomfort, only to reopen the wound further. Theese lesions extended to places untouched by the product above where it contacted the skin. Although I’m not amused it is fitting that I used this product to bolster a Halloween outfit because I look like a Ghoul under the beard. Just for Men is , just for no-one and does not belong on shelves.

Trey
I started using Just For Men beard dye about two months ago. The first time there was no issue, but the second and third time, I started to experience extreme burning and itching all over my face. My eyelids also swelled up, had to take Benadryl, called Amazon and was refunded the entire amount for the three pack purchase. For four days after using the product, my face itched and burned. Be sure to do the skin test before using the product, as I did not. The first time I had the reaction, I thought it was just a one off, but after the second use and same experience within a few hours after using the product, I realized it was an allergic reaction.

Mochael
I have used JFM for years on my mustache and goatee. It was never a problem. I decided to grow a beard and used JFM on it. Miserable!!! It burns and itches terribly. I am hoping over the next few days it will get better. I have washed and washed…conditioned my skin….I am done with the product. They need to remove it off of the shelf.

Andrew
I have used this product in the past without issue. This time is different. I used it this past Friday, I followed the usual steps, no issue until that night. I noticed a weeping from above my top lip. I used napkins to wipe excess etc and went to bed. Saturday morning both my lips were burning and my face was very itchy. The oozing continued. Sunday I woke up to less oozing and it was dry and cracked w light brown dried skin. I went through the day without oozing so I thought it was over. I woke up this. Owning (Monday) My lips are very cracked and it’s painful. A burning sensation is there and it’s oozing again. I may need to get medical attention, it’s just very hard to see a doctors right now due to the high Covid cases.

Troy
Same as almost all the previous comments. I colored my beard this morning and within 15 min after washing it out my face began itching and burning horribly. It is extremely painful and all around my mouth especially on my chin my skin is extremely red and has blisters that are oozing a sticky liquid substance I believe to be puss. I have used just for men beard color for yrs and have never experienced this before, however this is extremely painful and I will never use it again. Needs removed from shelves immediately.

Sunil
I used JFM a couple of days ago and I’ve come up with absolute killer hives! Very sore and painful. Will not use this product again.

joseph
I will never use this again..my skin is burning and got scars

Andrew
I thought it was my imagination. Perhaps the summer heat or mosquito bites or something else. I believe I was getting burned, it would heal and scab over, and then flake off. I would see the flaking in my beard and think my skin must be dry. Gonna need to find another product to use.

Mike
Totally agree, first time use seemed fine, afterwards red rash and stinging sensation, red and irritating. Avoid..

Joy
My husband use this dye a few times .on his third time he started itching. The next day his face is swelled for two days now. Its the dye something is bad .this need to remove. Its dangerous. Especially with cov’d people are using this product. We will never use it again. I hope the swelling goes down .

Don
I have used this product 2 times on my beard and both times, my face began to itch and burn. I thought the first time was due to me cutting my beard but I just used it again and here we go again. It is leaking fluid and itchy/burning. Now I’m going to have about a week of no sleep because I have tried everything to make the itch stop! I have spent $$$$ on beard oils, creams and soaps!! Now I know that it’s not just me! Please take it off the shelf!!

Frank
I too have noticed this issue. My neck and face started to become itchy and for some reason my lips feel different. I thought it was change of weather. Has anyone noticed that this issue went away once you stopped using it? Please email me I like to know: thanks!

Chris
Same as many others, skin test didn’t show an issue but after applying it into beard, had horrible reaction with skin burn. It’s coming up on two weeks and it’s still a long way from being healed. I’ll NEVER use Just For Men products again. This product is a safety hazard and should be pulled from the market. Extremely unhappy.
